So…is doing this thing on your own worth it?
I’ve had Ludem Dare in my plans for months and I had talked about it with many people however, as the day has come, no one is free any more! Can I ask – is GameJamming on your own missing the point of what a GameJam is supposed to be? Is it common?

I (and I daresay most people) always do this on my own. It really just depends on what you want out of it.

I did the last one by myself, but was in the IRC channel, that helped a lot for helping keep hype up. It’s definitely worth it, IMO. Also, if the only point was to be with other people in the same room, why do it online?

I usually go solo, and will be doing so again this time. Believe it or not, Ludum Dare was originally a solo-only event- the solo event survives as the Compo, while the Jam (which allows you to work in teams) was added later. So no, it is not missing the point. The point can be to improve your skills as a game developer, to make a prototype for something you want to build upon, just to have fun, or anything else you think it can do for you.

Nope, you’re not missing the point. The entire purpose of LD is to test your skills, see what you can put out under the pressure of a time limit and theme, and of course have fun! There are so many people out there that solo, myself included, and honestly I’d say probably the majority of LDers solo.
