Ludum Dare 46

LD46 Completed - My First Ludum Dare

After watching videos for years and learning Unity and Blender on my own. I decided to participate.

So, the theme is Keep it Alive, well, mostly every game is but how can I break it down? Use it around the current pandemic? mmm might be to obvious, setting up a game in a genre and engine I'm still learning? Now wise enough.

Well how can I use my basic skills and deliver something decent? Got it! What if you try to explore a cave as far as you can trying to find an exit, but your torch won't last for ever and you need to find a way to fire it up!. Sure, I won't mind the spontaneous fire in the cave, or how beating the ghost of previous spelunkers will give me a change to make it last longer. Just focus on going as far as a I can.

A procedural cave game were every cave as a name and goal....

So.. how do I beat a ghost? well face your fear literally and share their space until he goes.

Here's the game, sadly I had no time to add sound, but I will. It was my first ludum dare and I'm new to everything so wanted to be sure it was up and running.

Well, let's see if all those Blackthornprod, Brackeys, Sebastian Lague paid off. Also Phil Strahl's LD Videos on Loop for 3 years.

Loopertary is a game about been lock in the same stage and you need to fight the elements under a paper, scissors, stone mechanic.

Loopertary almost ready

Someway, somehow you are now part of your favorite Arcade, and need to fight your wait out. The only thing is that the motherboard is broken and the game is stuck in the same level. Loopertary 3.jpg

Loopertary is Here!!! (My second Ludum Dare)

I was waiting for so long to go through this again, I guess I'm not the only one.

I completed my responsibilities and voted, once the theme was revealed I was luck and fully caffeinated. After that, been coding for several hours straight, to bring you all Loopertary. My interpretation of the theme. Short but extra crunchy, inspired in Arcades.

Loopertary is game where you are stuck on a single level once you defeat your enemies you will face a boss that combines all the attacks for it's minions.

If you have a change. I appreciate your feedback. Now is time to sleep and wait for voting.

Wish all some good rest.

Loopertary! Arcade like gameplay visual and sound

You are stuck in the same level of your favorite arcade game... how long can you play on this loop? How many times can you show the boss: who is the real boss!

This is my second Ludum Dare. I was waiting months for it and apply the lessons from my first entry, therefore this game is full of sound, color and a good core loop.

Special thanks to my wife for supporting me in this madness and looking forward for your feedback.

Thanks for your time.

Bright colors, crunchy sound and arcade like controls.

Appreciate your time trying my second LD entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/loopertary

You might heard it before.... but voting is closing down in a few hours, it could be a good moment to play and rate Loopertary: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/loopertary

Play against elemental enemies using a rock-paper-scissor mechanic in order to face the final boss who combines the powers of your defeated enemies.

Thanks for your time and feedback! Good luck to everyone!

Loopertary: Thank you!

A minute of introspection

LD as become an event, even within my house, my parents and wife are very supportive and motivate me to jump into this madness that makes me happy. As an older software engineer, I notice how this has helped me getting new skills and learning new tools (Blender, Audacity, Unity).

Now preparing for my third round, I took a minute to think on what I need to improve: practice specific code, been efficient in game design. Keeping in mind not be to hard on myself.

I wanted to share this and ask: how do you work on improving your skills, any special inspiration or role models? What would you do different? For me it would be: keep it simple.
