I Can’t Believe It!

My game is actually sort of working! I’ve entered a few Ludum Dares and Mini-LDs in the past, but things never really seemed to work out terribly well for me. I don’t want to jinx myself, but so far, my choice of using Stencyl seems to be working more or less. I’m mainly using it because of its multi-platform support, but that still means that I need to learn it and get used to its idiosyncrasies!

Funky Stencyl?

I can’t always tell if I just don’t know exactly what I’m doing, but Stencyl seems a little buggy to me. I got my heart animations working, only to find that my collision detection didn’t =/. I thought at first that it had something to do with the fact that I turned on the animation, but finally realized that the hearts’ collision group got turned to default for some reason; and it’s not like I can accidentally change the group — it’s in a totally different window. Weird. Anyway…. animated hearts! Yay

Oh yeah, btw, I’m hanging out with a bunch of peeps at the Oakland M.A.D.E. (Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment) with a bunch of other game jammers and ppl playing a lot of old school games. This place is awesome! If you live in the bay area, you should come check it out!

Glitchy Glitch

Hmm, got a glitch that I’m not quite sure how to solve. I know what’s causing it — hearts are getting drawn too often when I only want them to draw when they lock to the grid… but the numbers don’t always match up, so I end up with the opposite problem. Also — potatoes!

Are the Results Fair?

I was reading this post from last year:

So how do things stand now?

Is it still a dare/challenge?

It’s still not a competition, that’s for sure.

FuzzYspoON even though I don’t really care for scores in this one I can’t completely agree with you.

For better or worse ones that “win” at this community get more publicity, and publicity is one of currencies of today.

The post you linked is the reason you need 20+ votes to be ranked. So yes, I’d say things are fixed now.
