Enemies are in and can throw deadly ninja stars!!
Fancy effects just to make it look cooler. I also added a parallax background layer for fun. Time to get combat working properly. 22 hours left! Good luck everyone!
I am really tired. Stayed up all night to get it finished.
It’s The Samurai’s Lonesome Heart
You only get one heart, so protect it with your life. It has a brand spanking new sword combat system, where you can control where your sword swipes! Play it now! at: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28/?action=preview&uid=31488
Although, I don’t think my game is finished. I used Construct 2’s free edition for this and ran out of events so some parts don’t work to well. Also I don’t think one level’s really a game. It’s more of a proof of concept. Welp, time for a long nap.
I made a game called The Samurai’s Lonesome Heart, and the relevance to the theme is that You Only Get One Heart aka everything kills you in one hit. I also implemented a new combat system where you have to aim your sword to block and attack enemies.
This game was the first game I have ever “completed”, and it is also my first Ludum dare game.
My worries
When I submitted my game I was disappointed. Due to Construct 2’s free edition limiting me in the number of events I could use, I had to scrap a tutorial enemy, and the final boss(es) couldn’t even hurt you. I was also really tired because I had stayed up the whole night to finish it, so level design was really rushed. I was very worried that my game was too complicated for players to understand, and I was also worried that the combat was flat out not fun.
You Reap What You Sow
When I woke up from my long nap and checked the comments, I was very pleasantly surprised. I somehow convinced myself that my game was a failure, but it seemed like quite a few people enjoyed it! It was then that I felt that all the work I had put in was worth it. This was such and eye-opening experience, because I had always viewed all my games as not fun, mainly because I had playtested it hundreds of times. But just a few kind words from some lovely people and I felt completely liberated from the self-inflicted stress. Only now then I feel proud of my creation, and I still can’t believe people find it fun.
I thank everyone who played my game, and please comment what can be done to improve it. This experience has made it possible for me to showcase my games to an audience other than myself.

Gosh procrastination will be the death of me. For the past two days the only thing substantial i’ve made is this idle animation.

wooo idle bob
Time to get to actually making the damn game.
Can I make a game in the remaining 24 hours? I hope so. 😛
Finshed the walk cycle. Still looks pretty choppy but I guess I don’t really have the luxury of time here. Now to get platforming working!

These. Hands. Shall. NOT. Leave. These. POCKETS!
but I wouldn’t consider it finished. It’s more of half a prototype more than anything. I was going for a simple point and click similar to Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, but I only managed to get movement and dialogue working. Although I will say that I am quite happy with the music I made for this entry, and I quite like the character designs. I think its worth pursuing in the future
Not bad for 3 hours of work

Gonna try and cook up something with some friends, all the best everyone!

A bit more than one days of work, but Clambell is coming together!
Honestly this was the first time I had to fill the programmer role, last time I coded a game was years ago, but huge thanks to my art team :) we all worked really hard and really proud of the final result. Do play and rate our game here!
