Ludum Dare 45

I'm in, for my very first Ludum Dare!

This is the second time I've ever joined a game jam but I'd rather pretend it's the first.

I'll participate in the hopes that the pressure will finally get me to finish a game (not very good at finishing things) because I usually just prototype dozens of projects and leave them to rot, as digital data does.

I'll be using the Godot game engine, Krita for 2D illustration, Blender if I decide to go 3D. If feeling particularly brave I'll use LMMS and Audacity for audio, Bfxr if I'm in need of some extra beep-boops.

Hoping to actually get something out by the end of the jam! If not, there's always next time.

Have fun, everyone!

It's almost time

oh god oh man

hype is short for hyperventilation

How meta!

I started with nothing. In fact I still have nothing.

not sure what to do

Still not sure how I want to go about this theme

Maybe I already fullfilled it since my project has a pitch black splash screen! It starts with nothing

In any case, I made this little friend during the last hour so I wouldn't feel so bad among the nothingness. notemsure/emwhatemto/emdo.gif

Let's go shopping!

Actually, it looks like the shopkeeper doesn't quite know how to do his job...

Still not "feeling it" in regards to the theme

I'm making something and I even want to finish it(!) but I don't think it follows the theme that well, so I'm pondering whether I should fail this and start a new project to follow the theme with, then continue this project after the jam is over, or if I should just continue with what I have.

After working for 16 of these last 26 hours

I think I'm gonna stick with my first project! It may not fit with the theme as much as I'd like, but it's good, and probably even fun, and that's aaaall that matters~

Now it's time to take a break. Slurp some noodles and get some rest.

More to come after I get well rested! Probably then I'll even remember to commit my changes more often.

Not sure how to continue from here

I think things are going well, but there's plenty more I want to do for the game and I'm afraid I'll be overscoping and end up running out of time if I try to do this stuff. 20 hours left.

In any case, even if I finish with a half baked product, I'll still publish it and the source code. This is the closest thing to a game I've made yet, so it seems game jams can help me with my prototype addiction.

Finished

Well, this was it, my ~~second~~ first game jam... uhm... My first SOLO game jam!

It didn't really go smoothly but that's not unusual. I tried plenty of new things and learned lots.

My game has been published and I hope that you can take a look and give me some feedback. It's not in as finished a state as I would like it to be, but I couldn't possibly realize my image for the game within the deadline, especially with my current less-than-stellar mood! >:(

Despite the bumpiness of the road, I loved the experience and hope to join the next Ludum Dare, as well as other game jams, after all, I'm still curious as to whether I can do better if given a theme I actually like! ;3

Now that it's all said and done, I should go and play the games you folks submitted!! I'm very curious to see how you followed the theme and what you all accomplished :3c

Time for a nap after a long day

It's been especially agitated in here today! I played lots of games and left them feedback and lots of people played my game and left me feedback, a fair trade indeed.

I honestly was not expecting such positive reception! I guess I just did not have a frame of reference for a jam game and saw the faults I noticed as much worse than they actually are. It's been a delight to play creative games and get nice comments and good criticism in return, you're all a lovely community and I'm happy for taking part!

I'll be back after some good sleep to play some good games.

Yay!

I got my 20 ratings. This is exciting! success.png

Sluggish Grind on GitHub!

I uploaded the source code of my game, Sluggish Grind to a  :new: :free: GitHub repo. Bask in the glory of spaghetti, inconsistent code made in a hurry and a messy, unsafe way to store sprites, with directories keeping scenes and scripts of questionable relationships together!

The repo also contains post-jam work I'm doing so check it out if you're interested.

Sluggish Grind Post-Jam Update

A post-jam update for my game Sluggish Grind has been released! It has been published for Windows, Linux and MacOS, but not for Web (the web version is the initial release)

You can find these releases on the itch.io page.

It's built from the latest commit in the GitHub repository and has a few gameplay tweaks and new features. It's by no means a finished game (It's still devoid of any music, the only sounds are the usual SFX.) but this is a version I can actually actively update.

This release addresses lots of issues with the original jam version, so try it out even if, or rather, especially if you already played the initial release!

One of the new features is a scoring system. Make sure you post your score when you're done. ;P

Thanks for your time!

And that's that

Not too bad for my first time I gotta say. I had a goal in mind to get a double digit position in any category, but honestly I played plenty of games better than mine, so I'm satisfied with the results, they're fair.

My strongest points were the fun factor and the simplistic 1-bit graphics, and you know, that's great! It means people had fun slipping and sliding sluggishly and liked my silly pixelly critters, those really were the points I put the most effort in.

I also got a surprisingly high Overall position, I'm not sure how many qualified entries there are in total, but that's undoubtedly around the top 20%. Slick!

I hope I get to participate next time! It's been a lot of fun, and I loved giving and receiving feedback, and making my first actual game. Cheers! :blue_heart:

Ludum Dare 46

Rusty, but still willing to make an effort

Haven't really worked on any game project for a long time! I neglected every single jam since the last Ludum Dare and worked little on my personal projects. Let's see if it's LDJAM that finally gets me to work again!
