I鈥檓 in!

I’m in! And I am really excited for my first Ludum Dare!

I will be doing the 48 hour compo, and hopefully I will make something really聽cool for me and for anyone who plays it.聽馃榾

My source will probably be hosted on GitHub, and for the game, possibly Google Drive.

Tools:

  • Java/Eclipse IDE
  • LWJGL + SlickUtil
  • Paint.NET
  • SFXR

The cheesiest LD game ever

(This post was ready yesterday just forgot to mark as pending for review)

I have made the cheesiest LD Compo game ever! (lol) Complete with cheesy animation and cheesy SFXR sound FX!

You can throw InvinciCats at spaceships to destroy them. The InvinviCats just fly off into space, but they don’t seem to mind.

Don’t let too many spaceships fall to Earth. Soon I will make sure everything is fine (like disable the ability to walk off the side of the screen) then probably submit VERY early, but since this is my first LD Compo I wanted to make it VERY simple.

I’m in!

I’ll be doing the Compo, and I can’t wait! I did it once before, but aimed EXTREMELY too low…so I ended up with a not-so-great game at all. Then I missed last one. Now I can really have fun! There may be a chance I’ll not be able to start right when the compo starts (an event in real life that may or may not end before a good time) but after that I definitely am doing it.

I will most likely be using these tools/software:

  • Eclipse (Eclipse Kepler, for coding the code in Java)
  • Paint.NET (art)
  • sfxr (sound effects)

I will also be using the libraries LWJGL聽and slick-util.

I鈥檓 in!

I’m doing this Ludum Dare!!!

I really badly want to use Java…but then I realized that there are just flat out too many things I don’t fully know on porting it to other platforms, and sometimes my Java games don’t work on my friends’ computers if they are Windows 8/10. So…yeah. I personally feel like Windows 7 is the best and generally the most compatible version and anyone else using聽newer versions聽should copy their Operating System into a CD and smash it into a wall switch back聽to Windows 7.

So, onwards…

I’m in!

I will be doing the 48 hour compo and will probably upload the game to MediaFire.

Tools:

  • Unity3D / C# for Scripting
  • Notepad++ as the code editor
  • Blender
  • Paint.NET
  • SFXR
  • Audacity

Well, that happened!

I finished! For the first time ever, I made something of reasonable quality!!! A great, awesome thing!!!

Java, I love you dearly, but Unity is better for me. I have used Unity quite much before,聽but have always stuck to mostly聽Java when doing ideas and projects.聽I like Java more I guess because I don’t fully enjoy coding in languages like C++ but still loved being immersed in purely text code. Although…I don’t have the same feelings about feeling uber-inspired and smashing at my keyboard for hours on end as I used to, with some great godly聽result after a week or two. (God, I miss those days, though. Maybe soon I’ll sit down and code something from pure text, no editor. Now that’s the life.)

Besides, when under time, Unity is easier and much better for that, personally. Mainly, it’s because of how quick you can get stuff up and running. The first room in my game, with the two weird glowy graphics effects I made and the size changing to get out through that crack, were done before I even could realize that I had finished just聽that – finished the first room.

So…

Point is: I think I’m going to use Unity from now on for Ludum Dare, and I’m happier than ever with my LD game for actually doing it.

Yeah, I used Java for my entry and I’m kinda regretting it. I should’ve used Unity

I think Java by being very strict is more of an obstacle. C# is a good language.

I used to do game jams in Lua, which is great for prototyping but maybe a bit too permissive.

IMHO Typescript is just in between the gap, having strong types in javascript helps a lot.

The new site is confusing.

I had to create a "game" just to post this, then I tried to post a post about it and nothing happened so here I am doing another post about it trying to figure out why it didn't work the first time.
