LD35

I’m in

This is my first Ludum Dare! I will probably upload my game in HTML5 to Kongregate  and link it here.

Most likely I’ll use these tools…

Construct 2 (game)

GIMP (graphics)

sfxr (audio)

A little progress…

So the work in progress finally resembles a game, I think.

I’ve decided to go with a vertical shooter. You’re an antibody going through the bloodstream. You’ll shift forms as you collect antigens.

It started as a much more ambitious companion game where your block companion could shapeshift (a well-worn mechanic!) and allow your other player to make it to other areas, etc.

AN example of the companion/shapeshifting idea is below. What was I doing here??? The blocky character was supposed to shift, but I scrapped this due to complexity. I wanted this bot to be able clone itself to serve as a platform or bridge, etc.

Okay, so a shooter through the bloodstream seems more doable…

LD2

And “improving” the graphics marginally…

LD3

Now to make it more fun to play, and add the actual shapeshifting. I am thinking only the player/antibody will shift (complete with some stronger shots/etc), but I might make shapeshifting enemies too if I have time…

“Finished!”

My goal for my first Ludum Dare was just to have a a finished game…and by that metric, the quaint little microshooter ShiftZGen is complete in just under 24 hours!

I’m happy I pushed through, it is indeed a huge challenge. I think my first Ludum Dare was a success! Of course, there are a million and one things I could and probably should add, but I think I am happy for now on this one–time to unwind and get ready to play some games…

Oh, there is only one boss in this game, and the game can be beaten in just a few minutes.

Now, on to play some of the amazing stuff I have seen other folks making…

Good luck, everyone!!

I also finished in 24 hours, but my game is a lot less pretty. Good job!
