I'm In

This is going to be my second Ludum Dare. Hopefully, I'll do fine! I will use Unity and might use Blender, Gimp, Audacity and sxfr.

Destroy Blocks

:) Check out my game, Destroy Blocks. It is basically a game that is kind of inspired by Minecraft. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/block-destroyer

In the game, you are in a "small world". Your objective is to destroy as many blocks as you possibly can within a minute. The graphics in the game are real simple but not too ugly. Also, the game has some minor funny easter eggs. Finally, the game has some sound that I created. I used Sfxr to create the sound effects and Audacity to record the music. Note, I am a noob at recording music so please don't think there is an error if the music sounds like it is not working. I'm also a noob at creating music. However, I don't think the music is too awful and it is kind of good.

When Will We Get Our Results?

We are supposed to get them today, right. How come I am not getting the results?

Question asked again: Are we allowed to post stuff not related to LD?

If we are, I just want to say that I recently published a new game! Check it out here: https://gamejolt.com/games/DeadlyDangerousTrials/256170

Currently, I am working on updating my Ludum Dare 38 entry. I have followed advice given through comments in my game. You can play it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/block-destroyer

So far, I have improved movement and gravity controls. I have also made destroying blocks easier. Hope you enjoy!

Play my remastered version of Ludum Dare 38 Jam Entry: Destroy Blocks

As the title says, I remastered my LD38 Jam Entry.

For remastering my game, I looked at many comments from others. I listened to feedback and made adjustments to the game. I made the original controls much easier to use (WASD to move, Mouse to Look Around, Left Click to destroy blocks). I also fixed the glitch of falling off the world. I also made the game a lot less laggy (had to sacrifice the use of shadows though). Also, I made the gravity switching mechanic in my game much easier to use. I also added enemies in my game as there were a couple of requests asking for danger features to spice the game.

For the music, I could not find out a way to fix its sound (because I am bad at recording audio) so I left the music as it is. It cuts in and out then, but the music is still fine and enjoyable to listen too.

Why are so many themes very specific?

Most of the themes don't allow you to look at it from a different perspective.

For example: You are not the main character Limited visibility and Limited tools are themes that can't be interpreted in different ways!

I'm in!

This is my third Ludum Dare! I feel more prepared for this Ludum Dare than the last one.

Losing Power Post-Mortem

Oh, I learned a lot from Ludum Dare 39!

What Went Right:

-I already knew what type of game I was going to make and didn't waste precious time brainstorming, leaving plenty of extra time to focus on my game.

-I tested my tools before the jam started and made a virtual "Warm-Up Weekend" for myself.

-I used a bunch of base code from my "Warm-Up Weekend" as it was similar to my compo entry (both 2D platformers) and was quickly able to fire up a rapid prototype for my game.

-The art was very simple to make with GIMP, and it turned out to be very nice. I used a bunch of techniques I learned from Gimp from here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7F1MwEOf1E. This is actually my first time that I actually made some decent art for a 2D game( I only had experience with making one 2D game in the past and that game had simple art. Check here for "evidence" : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DStudios.BoldJumper&hl=en )

See the awesomeness of the art of my game here: ld39screenshot5.png

-I managed to easily create obstacles quickly with code. This game jam really did increase my coding prowess as I coded a lot of things by myself, including the moving platforms! I also kept my code neat and tidy and only had to write simple code, which I could reuse for other aspects in the game!

-Unlike other Ludum Dare 39 entries, I managed to add some great sound effects into my entry!

-I used my time that I had wisely while building the game and did not rush any mechanics.

-I slept on a regular schedule, ate food, and lived a regular life, which caused me to be very productive in my game.

-I made the game kind of atmospheric and moody in my opinion.

What Went Wrong: -A player who played my game couldn't determine whether they were moving up and down on a moving platform when no other platforms were near them.

-My game didn't have particle effects or animations. This would have especially juiced my game when the main character jumped, landed on a platform, or died.

-A player in my game said the game would have been better if the main character's facial expression changed when time is running out for each level (e.g. the robot should have had a smile on its face when the level began and slowly become more and more worried when it starts running out of power).

-The music in my game is annoying (at least in my opinion). It is very repetitive and the loop is less than 90 seconds. It doesn't even sound that good.

Overall, even though my game isn't perfect and people may not like it, I am very proud of my work and what I achieved and learned from this event.

Story: You are a machine that runs on electricity. However, you are running out of electricity. Complete each level to restore electricity but you must hurry before you completely run out of electricity! This means that each level is timed! Good luck.

Gameplay Overview: This game is a platformer game. In this game, you can move on platforms and jump. The goal for each level is to move and jump to reach a door that gives you electricity. In each level, there is a timer. If you don’t reach the door before the time limit, you lose all your power and will have to restart the level again. This game is level based, and dying in one level causes you to restart that level once again.

I would like two more ratings for humor in my game.

I have played and rated 20 games, and people have given me 20 or more ratings in each category except humor. Please play my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/cost and give me ratings for humor. In exchange, I might play and rate your games.

Looking For Team Members for Game Jam!

I am a noob game developer that uses Unity. I know some basic programming, audio, and art. I am looking for a coder and an artist. I am fine with my team members being noobs as I am myself a noob. However, these team members should have Unity since I am using Unity. I might have a flexible schedule during the weekend but I will have plenty of time to work on the game. I do value sleep so I will not work on the game for the whole jam period. I want to be the director of the game and manage the project. I might do a little bit of art, sound, and especially coding. I am more likely to code more for the project than to do the art and sound of the game. If you want to see how experienced I am with game making, please see my games here: https://d-studios.itch.io/

If you are interested to work with me, please contact me in Discord. My username is: D-Studios#9881
