The Alchemist: Dev Journey.

Hello World!

Maybe it was hard, maybe I did not dedicate the time that I used to dedicate to the never but without a doubt I am super happy with the result. The Game is a bit rough but 100% playable, The MVP is there and thanks to @forevertrash & @samguy for giving me feedback on the game so early and being able to write down various things for a possible future version.

The idea I don't know if it has much to do with the theme "Deeper and Deeper" but I interpreted it as an obsession and wanted to make a puzzle that would reflect some objections in themselves. So the Law of Equivalent Exchange appeared as a shooting star (thanks Fullmetal Alchemist).

It is not something super innovative the cycles of strength and weakness... many games based on elements use the same principle (pokemon, TemTem, Avatar, Rock, Paper & Scissors).

help1.png

But in fantasy (and real life) alchemists were scientists obsessed with transforming elements, especially lead into silver/gold. So they had to experiment as much as they could with the tools they had for the time.

So the mission in this game is the mecca of every alchemist, to achieve a perfect transmutation! based on 4-element orbs. This is where the Equivalence Exchange Law comes into play

help3.png

Achieving this has a minimal chance. So for the game I would recommend trying to achieve as many transmutations as possible before failing.

To go even deeper into the law, there are mixed orbs (2-element orbs) that make a 1: 1 change with the opposing elemental orbs when selected.

help2.png

As final notes, what mechanics would I like to include? - Re roll so you can change your options by paying a small cost (as the law says, everything has a price) - Able to emulate the Hold mechanics used in Tetris to manage the orbs. - Validate that 2 equal orbs are NEVER shown as options (it is too random and unfair). - VFX and a lot of animations.

The Alchemist - a mini Postmortem edition

Are you interested by play the game? Play & Rate: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-alchemist

ss1.PNG

Well maybe this is not a Postmortem at all but I included new features in the prototype (trying to fix the misunderstanding in the entire game):

  • Added Highlight transmutation cues when the player [Tap] & [Hold] a orb, the HUDs display a preview of that possible transmutation.

  • Added (+)(-) Counters to give the player more visual feedback about all the transmutations.

  • Fixed Minor issues between Air-Fire and Fire-Water transmutations.

What coming next? (Before Play+Rate ends)

  • Implement a re-roll system
  • Implement a Bonus factor (In some moments the player can multiplier his combo with a determinate element orb).
  • Fix Never give to the player double orb of the same element
  • Fix Mobile resolution 480x640 looks cutted in the current screens.

My Demonic Little Demons

After a dramatic first day, I find myself participating with my girlfriend and it has honestly been a very fun experience. The satanic pacts and the basic puzzle system in the game are ready with concept art. Tomorrow (in a few hours) it will be a matter of polishing and adding some easter eggs, animations, and audio.

mdld_firstPrototype.gif

Leave me your opinion, what do you think of the invocations!?

There are ideas in the air such as a microgame of Tamagotchi after having achieved a successful summon.

Oh Dear Cthulhu awake!

Another day, more updates... The Puzzle system, image preview, in-game audio, and other minor stuff are ready! Now it's time to animations and characters and give a flavor in-game.

Soon you can invoke your favorite demon/god in your super duper salt circle.

Help plz, Whats Wrong!?

(Entering in Panic attack mode)

Im trying to upload the game made with Phaser 3.80.1 BUT I'm having problems with it not loading any images in the game embedded from Ludum Dare. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Fun fact: Locally it works 10/10 and on itch.io, it only doesn't load 1 asset.

Done! and Truly Happy

I think this is my 22nd attempt to participate in a ludum dare and this time it has been incredible because I had the opportunity to not only achieve good gameplay (according to me) but also to participate with my partner in crime.

A new experience unlocked and I am very happy that this time I did not let frustration and fear take over me but continued fighting until I was satisfied. Am I 100% satisfied? Not of course not, it can always be improved but it is something that I don't see as distant as in other participations.

This time I was left out of the deadline but surely it will enter a post-mortem? Well, here I leave a list and of course some screenshots of gameplay for those who are encouraged by the summoning challenge.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/my-demonic-little-demons

  • My Little Demons (Tamagotchi mode).
  • More Animations/Tweens.
  • More Seals/Levels -More Monsters to invoke.
  • A better sound design.
  • Voice-over saying stupid and funny stuff.

Some Hotfixes and close the summon

Aloha everyone! I hope they are well, today I finally corrected and made some tweaks that the final version of the game needed.

  • First the functional implementation of more color variations for our little friend, Cthulhin. When you can summon by completing a seal, you may release a different color each time. mdld-1.png

  • I updated the balance of the game a little, since from puzzle number 3 onwards, the number of iterations of pieces increased the difficulty abysmally. mdld_Prototype5.gif

  • Fixed the problem that some images did not appear in the build published on itch.io. (Ludum Dare was impossible to correct, the LD system is still ultra buggy and restrictive:/). mm3.png

  • Fixed the music only playing once, now it's a nice infinite loop (or until they get married and mute it xD).

Here is the game to play: My Demonic Little Demons

Last Opportunity to Corrupt your Neighborhoods!

Well after some fixes in the game and some new additions to the base version of the Jam, this is the last call to try the summoning of what could be your favorite god/demon!

mdld_Prototype5.gif

It's intriguing to see how so far no one has been able to pass level 5, but more than 200 demons have been summoned!

mdld_Prototype4.gif

Thank you very much to everyone who has tried and dedicated their valuable time to this game made with love and satanism. For those who have not yet tried it, I cordially invite you to try it and leave me your comments in passing, I will surely go through your game too!

Prepared for the Unknown

Aloha everyone! This year I’ll be diving back into compo mode to see how far I can get. I’m keeping my expectations low, I just want to make a simple but fun prototype, and we’ll see what I can pull off haha... On another note, I’m debuting my little intro for the games I make, and I’ve got a death race game in mind. Still, I’ll wait to see what theme comes up to decide if I can adapt it, or if I’ll switch to something that fits better.

video5.gif

For this compo, my Tools of Trades:

  • :computer: Code: TIC-80 + Lua
  • :art: Art: Aseprite
  • :sound: Sound & Music: TIC-80’s built-in editor

I also plan to share posts at the end of each day to document the process :D

That’s it, hope everyone has fun, experiments, learns something new, and please, for the love of everything, make sure to eat and get some sleep! Take care ppl :love_letter:

Lock N' Loaded!

Mentally ready for a fun and wild weekend (after a while), I’m going back to trying to build a prototype on my own in Compo format. Let’s see how it turns out. On the other hand, I’ve already set up everything needed to stream and share the development process via Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/dalloner

here’s a preview with OBS, TIC-80, and other things all ready. stream.jfif

Wishing everyone a beautiful and awesome LD, have a great time, and remember to sleep and eat properly!
