LD18

My first official attempt at making an entry resulted in this flash thing: http://danik.gotdns.org/flash/crystals/index.html The crystals are randomly generated to be unique. The goal of the game I had in mind was to collect the crystals using the mouse as a magnet, but I didn’t have enough time by far this weekend to pull it off, so I just ended up with this little “demo”.

wow! You might be able to sell that as an effect for a website!

Thanks!

Yes, I would like to finish it, but I haven’t decided on what the game in this “game” would be. 😛

I have some ideas though…

Another shot at this

I will be coding in Java using Eclipse, Photoshop for gfx, Audition for sound, EnergyXT for music (if I can get music working in my applet).

This is my base code I will be using: http://danik.gotdns.org/java/LDAppletBase.zip

Time to get some sleep!

Painting clouds

If all else fails, at least I have a good looking background. 😀

Let me add in here. Lovely! Looks like an idea I had earlier. Only mine was sort of a simulation and had nothing to do with the theme. Graphics killed it.

Thanks! :)

Not giving up yet

As I went to bed last night I had almost given up because all of the issued I had with the gameplay. I couldn’t make it fun.

But after a good nights sleep I knew what didn’t work and had some new ideas, so now I’m up to speed again.

Enemies a plenty

Some more progress

The game is beginning to come along nicely, the gameplay is much more fun now. Just one level so far though, and no menu or instructions.

Enemies, cliffs and clouds in the sky

Almost there

Announcement: The game now has a title: “Alien Abduction of Aliens.”

I’m having some issued with applet loading resources and such, but other than that – it’s getting there!

Please let me know if you have any issues, some people have reported not being able to play it (some issues with chrome specifically).

Play it here (Java Applet)

I’m entering

My preparations for this LD have been next to none, thanks to exams (had the last one yesterday). But I won’t let that stop me!

My plan:

Make a flash game using FlashPunk (and learn the library at the same time.)

Other tools:

  • FlashDevelop
  • Photoshop
  • Sfxr
  • Ableton Live (if time permits)

Obligatory desk photo

Some progress

After a slow start learning FlashPunk my pace is beginning to pick up (sort of). My game will be some kind of secret agent platformer, I haven’t come up with a name yet.

So far I have tile level loading, collision and stuff working, some graphics and some music.

Here’s a screenshot:

Finished and submitted

So, my game is now submitted. You can play it here (flash): PLAY!

Here’s the entry page: ENTRY

Time to rest.

The Secret Documents Post-Compo Version

I have been working on my game some more since the competition version.

New features include:

  • Improved player control
  • Improved physics & collision handling
  • Enemies now have a bit longer line of sight, making them harder
  • More logical levels, no more unexpected death drops
  • Some new tiles and graphics
  • Flickering and occluded lights
  • A preloader

Play it here! –> The Secret Documents

First screenshot

2.5 hours of work so far, took me quite some time to settle on an idea and I’m still not sure about it. We will see…

Food

FOOD!

And some fibre (IMPORTANT!)

Nice. Finn’s are high in fiber. Good to know. [/cannibalism]

Second day progress

Today I have mostly worked on some graphics for the splash screen and win screen. It’s coming along nicely, but I still have a lot to do.

Shaping up

Gameplay and graphics are pretty much finished now. Next up: music and sound. And if there is time; online highscores.
