Yay weekend! Time to play & rate.

It’s been a busy week for me and I haven’t had a chance to rate or play anybody’s game.
Now is the time, I’m busting through and getting to enjoy all your games! Hopefully I can learn a thing or two while I’m at it.

My brother and I live in different states now and we both have always been the kind of people to be passionate in starting many projects but never finishing a single one.
This last weekend we went into Ludum Dare  with the goal of “Finishing a game!” With understanding that it’s our first LD and that our project will for certain be rough around ALL of the edges.

The character is fun, cute, and quirky. I wish we had spent more time on making content and less time trying to refine mechanics. Also, I wish we would have been able to port it to a web version for all of those non-Windows folk. When I work on it more, I’ll see if I can buy a module to port it over (using GM).

We’re excited to hear your feedback. What you liked about our game, and wise words of how we can do better next time.altarexample
Can’t wait to play your game!

LD 42

We're in!

This is our 4th Ludum Dare I think. Joining our Team for this Ludum Dare are our two friends focusing on storyline and art. Engine: Phaser.js Art: Photoshop / paint Music and Sound: Audacity / whatever else is determined last minute

Waiting for the theme, but the game is going to be narrative/dialogue based 2d top down. Phaser is brand new to me so hopefully, we aren't in too deep with using a new Engine. Can't wait to play all of your games and good luck all! Most importantly remember to have fun 🎉

Node / Express Phaser.js... How do you guys deploy?

I can't figure out how to deploy my Phaser.js game. I'm trying node/express but have a difficult error code when I try to deploy it to heroku. Can anyone point me to the right resource for deploying this? I'm not a node.js / express expert (clearly).

LD 44

I'm in.

My build (if I end up making a playable game). - Defold Engine - Aseprite - Audacity (SFX) - Music: Wish I could put more effort into this, but let's be real... not going to happen.

And for when the theme comes out: a big thanks to my loving wife, who will inevitably pull me out of a grasping anxiety attack when I try to figure out a game idea.

Unity 2D Tips?

I gave my stack earlier, but now I'm changing from using Defold engine to Unity. I am (barely) more familiar with Unity and Unity just has better tutorials, docs, and bigger community support. Not that Defold is bad, but I think I'll be more successful with something I can learn faster and have worked with before.

Trying to make the scope as small as possible (I have had too great of scope too many times before).

I'm excited to try and work with 2d in Unity since I've only done a few 3D projects before.

Any tips for doing 2D unity for a rookie? Thanks and Good luck everyone!

Mage for player character

mage_idle.gif Start on art since I feel too tired to program today. Hopefully that will motivate me to get a lot done with the logic tomorrow.!

Goblin Baddy

goblin_run.gif One of the enemies. I'm not much of an animator, but I think it's kind of fun and quirky how his arm is just flailing.

Lost motivation

I don't know why, but this weekend just filled up with so many interruptions (fixing my truck all day yesterday so I could drive to work on monday). Now I feel completely demotivated to even try. I hate it when I feel like this because I know I could be capable of coming up with something on the last day, but I am having anxiety over it and that isn't what this jam should be about. Gahhhhhhh. I'm going to TRY and build SOMETHING ANYTHING. but I'm just not feeling it, it's frustrating, all I've done is make two sprite animations... that's it. I've never done so poorly in a LD, not even my first one was this bad. Any advice? Have you had a really really bad LD before, and have any of you rebounded last minute?

Ludum Dare 46

I'm In

I am in focus mode for this LD Jam. I feel confident in my tools and a much better understanding of just how small I need to scope in order to add polish to a game.

Using: - Unity - Aseprite - Bosca Ceoil maybe?

Hope you all have a good Jam and I am excited to play as many entries as I can at the end!

Also, I appreciate any tips or tricks on producing music / sfx for my game. Good luck all!

Game Jam not completed

Complications in my life arose tonight. I will no longer be capable of finishing the game I worked so hard on up until this point. It is now impossible for me to continue. I will forever remember this night.

Ludum Dare 47

I'm In

  • Unity

  • Audacity

  • Blender? (probably expect some programmer art)

  • Gimp

I've learned I'm much faster at making 3D physics based games. I need more practice with Unity's 2D workflow. Outside of that we'll see where the theme takes me.

Getting practice building to itch.io, practicing my weak points like making ui/main menus, and going to practice blender and animation in Unity, though that will probably be on the backburner compared to the items I know I can finish.

GL all!

Literally Stuck Looping

What I have so far.

Had to pivot on my idea when I couldn't figure out how to tie this baby in a knot at start of game.do-not-knot-gif.gif

Ludum Dare 49

I'm in!

My last game wasn't very innovative and the graphics were bad, but I at least did well in the Fun category. This time, I'm going to scope down to allow a bit more polish hopefully.

Tools: Unity, aseprite, bfxr, Bosca Ceoil, Audacity.

This jam I want to focus on adding more Juice or Game Feel. Good luck all!

Headless Horseman

I'm not much of a pixel artist AND animating run cycles is rough especially for a horse.

I think it's believable enough hopefully!

So Much Work Remaining

My list is long, can I finish this before the end of Jam time? Let's hope so. Happy with what I have so far though!

Done! The Headless Horseman

Play It Now!

Play as the Headless Horseman, Avoid the Grim Reaper, Jump over the falling pumpkins, and get back your real head!

I worked as long as I could. I have work tomorrow, so I had to call it complete. The game is beatable, it take approximately 2 mins to reach the end win screen on a flawless run. (Hopefully it isn't too challenging.)

Can't wait to hear your feedback and to keep working on this game post jam! For the rest of you finishing your games: Good luck and you've got this!
