Last Minute Things to Watch Out For?

It's my first time attending Lundum Dare and I'm planning to make something for the Compo.

I want to be prepared for anything that could go wrong or be forgotten at the last minute when it comes the comp because I'll probably be too focused on meeting its 48 hour deadline.

There's no tricky hoops to jump through, long upload times, or hard to spot submit buttons when submitting a compo game right? 馃槄

Thanks for any advice/tips.

Nintendo DS Homebrew for Compo

As this is my first Ludum Dare event, I want to keep myself from making a game that's overly complicated or ambitious.

And oddly enough, one way of preventing myself from doing that is by making a game for a certain beloved handheld of mine, the Nintendo DS!

Thanks to DS Game Maker (basically Game Maker but for the DS) I'm able to compile a .NDS game file that can be played on PC through a Nds emulator or on an actual DS with a DS flash cart.

Since the DS has only one resolution to worry about (same for both screens) and has limited ram I'll be encouraged to keep my game simple and not overly resource intensive. Also its contraints help guide me to make certain design decisions like sprite sizes and more.

It may be a little late now for others to make Nintendo DS games for this Ludum Dare, but if you're interested in homebrew DS game development check out the DS Game Maker fansite below:

Ludum Dare Press Kit?

I'm currently looking for a vector file or high resolution transparent image of the Ludum Dare Logo to use in my social media coverage of Ludum Dare.

So far from what I found online that's high quality is just the old logo but I would like to use the modern one that's shown on this site.

Thanks for sharing any links or leads to where I can get what I'm looking for!

Best Way to Live Stream Ludum Dare?

Hey all,

I'm thinking of potentially recording or live streaming myself creating a game for this upcoming Ludum Dare event.

But I'm not sure what would be the best way to accomplish this interms of what software/hardware to use and what other advice would be recommended as I've never done such a long recording before.

My goal is to screen capture my main monitor and all sound that is coming from the computer as well as my microphone audio.

OBS seems like the best choice since it allows for recording multiple audio sources while screen recording but my computer isn't strong enough to record from OBS and test play my game at the same time without a lot of performance lag. So I'm almost considering using a separate computer with an external Elgato capture card to record my game being developed from my main computer.

If you guys have other streaming setups you recommend or would like to share, or have any other advice/tips I would appreciate it, and thanks!

And here's hoping you all have a good experience with this month's Ludum Dare event!

Are You More Likely to Play Games With The HTML5 Logo on its Cover art?

A while back someone suggested in the Ludum Dare posts that we should put the HTML5 logo in the cover art of our games if they support being played in the browser. It was stated that this is important to some users as the only way they can or will play Ludum Dare games is through the web browser.

In my case, I'm concerned about people shying away from checking out homebrew console games if they have a game console label or logo in the cover art like I do for my game jam game linked below.

So would that no longer be a deterrent to you if I just included the HTML5 logo in the cover-art for all my future Ludum Dare console games? So long of course if I have a web browser playable method for the game.

Or does it not matter to you and you would still click on a game jam game with the console label even if you didn't know other play methods would/could be provided than playing the game on its intended hardware?

As a workaround, I know that I and other console game developers could simply omit the console label from the cover-art but I feel that would take away some of the nostalgia appeal and uniqueness factor for checking out the game.

Thank you for any input you have on this!
