Ludum Dare 52

First Ludum Dare and first jam since 2021

This is going to be my first game jam since 2021! I've been dealing with burnout from academic stress since 2019 and it has taken a lot of the joy of making games from me. I'm glad that I can finally say that I am recovering and learning to love making games again!

Wild times in Unreal Engine 5

So last minute, right before the jam began, I decided to make my game in Unreal Engine 5. No bigee right? I'm pretty good at navigating the engine now and as long as I played to my strengths i'd be successful, right? Oh how wrong I was! I ended up wasting at least a day on learning an engine system I was never gonna use.

Nevertheless I persisted, and today I ended up making something I am actually pretty proud of. Is it playable? God no. It's gonna be at least another weekend until the game becomes playable at all. However, I do have a preview for those interested. Think, Zombies are gonna eat your crops, and if you don't do anything about it you wont have any food left. I think its a good idea that can be expanded upon in a number of different ways.

Anyways I'm tired, I'm gonna go to bed soon, but if you're interested in seeing what I'm making here's a link to the youtube preview. https://youtu.be/xZWqtEMi9ao

Update: Stalk (working title) is now 80% complete!!!

Hi everyone!

So I've been spending the last week continuing to work on my wave-based first person horde shooter called Stalk, and its been really fun working on it! I'm happy to announce that I am almost done with it, there are only a few things I need to sort out (playtesting, polishing, level rearrangement stuff, and one more system to add) but i'm almost done. I'm in the home stretch, and the game looks absolutely fantastic! It's honestly incredible what UE5 is capable of, even when I'm just using a mixamo character and quixel assets. I'm currently trying to fix a nasty UI bug, but I can't wait to show you guys more!

Screenshots, Screenshots, Screenshots!

Development is almost complete! Thank you all for your patience (and thank god for the extra category haha). I should have the game finished by tonight if all goes well! I would also like to announce the official title of the game.

Stalk: Blood Harvest, A wave based First Person Shooter about defending the last patch of crops from destruction by a horde of zombies!

Here are some screenshots I just took, and I have to say that they look incredible. This was a TON of fun and I want to thank Ludum Dare for putting on a fantastic Jam.

Stalk: Blood Harvest is out!

Hi everyone! I forgot to mention this on the day I submitted it but Stalk: Blood Harvest has been finished, and you can play it right now! I'd really appreciate it if you could rate it as well, I'm currently working on polishing the game and eventually releasing it on itch.io, so any and all critique is welcome!

Stalk: Blood Harvest needs your help! I'd really like it if I got more ratings in before the deadline for rating games is over. If you have the time to rate some games i'd really appreciate it! Also I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who commented on my posts and supported me during the development of the game, it really was a journey to the end. Thanks to everyone who gave me critique and encouragement in my first game jam in over a year, it was a really fun way to kick off 2023!

Skyfail Delivery

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPEwkeQZJwc

Hi everyone! Just wanted to make a quick post about Skyfail Delivery before the ratings period closes. It's a dystopian delivery simulator I made with my friends Zoe, Evie, and Emi! Featuring: * crunchy sound effects! * delicious controls! * and the most unintentionally horrifying soundtrack to a game you have ever heard

(I am so sorry for the cacophany of collision sounds)

The game currently doesn't have a goal, or an ending, you just deliver packages in the city until you get bored with it. At some point in the future I'll figure out a coherent gameplay loop but for now you just make as much money as you can. Everyone who worked on the game has really enjoyed the feedback that you have been giving us! Making Skyfail Delivery was an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved, and I'm so happy that everyone has enjoyed the game!
