My first jam

This will be my first Ludum Dare, we'll be using sjgl, a Java 2D game library I made myself and Krita for painting as well as lmms for music and maybe bfxr.net or audacity for sound fx.

PROGRESS!

We made some pretty good progress in our junkyard themed game. Good luck and a nice workflow everyone. I am excited to play all those great game!

FINALLY!

I was finally able (after 2h of frustrating) to fix a unfixable bug with the Keyboard input! It was one line that was so fatal! Happy Ludum Dare you all!

Escape the Junk!

Escape the Junk! Kill cute little rats! Have fun with our Ludum Dare game (as soon as it's done)!

Escape the Junk!

Imagine, that you are in a room full of junk. Imagine that the walls are coming towards you, from left and right to crush you. Imagine that you find a gun and that you have to shoot cute little rats in order to get out. You don't have to imagine. You just have to play our game: menu.png https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/escape-the-junk

Kill rats!

Do you want to kill rats for getting keys? Well, if you play our game you have to kill those cute rats in order to escape the waste press. Good luck and please rate'n'comment if you played it.

Fixed Keyboard input!

cover.jpg Escape the Junk now runs with the latest build of Salty Engine. For this build, I completely re-did the way keyboard input works and so, the input of our game Escape the Junk works as excepted. Some people complained about the shoot mechanics because of the bad input handling, that's fixed now!

Want to play Escape the Junk? Here is its ld42 page, please rate and leave a comment when you played it, it's available for MacOs, Linux and Windows.

Only 35 Ratings...

Our game only has 35 ratings and I think the reason is that you have to download it in order to be able to play it because it is written in Java.

Here is my promise:

If you download the game from the link on its ldjam page, you will be able to download a .zip. In this archive there is a .jar executable and a starting script. The script will only (you can open it with a text editor and take a look) start the .jar with some arguments for a better performance. In those .zip archives, there are ABSOLUTELY NO MALWARE OR VIRUSES OF ANY KIND. You do not have to install anything to launch the game. But of course, java has to be installed.

This ldjam was our first and I'd love to have some more ratings because we were working really hard. Thanks!

We are most likely in again

Me and a friend are most likely in again on our second Ludum Dare and we are most likely going to use:

  • Salty Engine
  • Java
  • GarageBand
  • Audacity
  • Krita
  • itch.io

Basic Tower Defense mechanics are working now

Enemies move from point to point, perfecly working collision detection with tower range. The tower shoots at the farthest enemy in range and deals damage. Each enemy take-down grants points. ezgif.com-video-to-gif (1).gif

We are out

So basically, we (@loooneliest and me) are out. We wont finish our game. First of all because of the theme. We had a really hard time getting a good game idea that fits the theme. We were working on a Tower Defense game where your health is the currency at the same time (we know that this is not an original idea), but we both aren't really motivated anymore and there are too many bugs and too much to do still. We will most likely finish the game in a few weeks and release it then.
