First Timer Blues

a.png

THE RELEASE WAS INTENSE. I freaked out for a straight hour while features were cut left and right so we could have a proper release by midnight - the coincidental point where the looming "jam ends" counter added up to in our timezone.

In the single digits minute count before the timer was out, we pushed our first release, with a tiny little bug that disabled every single enemy in the game. RATS. We're doomed. The clock ticked around the 20 seconds mark when the last hope of uploading a fixed release was snuffed out of our hearts.

That was when i F5ed the page, to be greeted by a submission hour+ counter. I NEVER KNEW THIS WAS A THING (maybe this was just somewhere really obvious and i cant read for shit, thats always a possibility). You know the feeling you get when a very scary deadline is moved forwards? It's a straight up spiritual experience. The game was promptly fixed - of course, our cut features are still staring at me with sad eyes, but hey, i bet yall would prefer 5 more levels instead of a "YOU'RE WINNER" screen nobody asked for, right?

At least that's what i try to tell myself :)

Brain Jam - A Post-Jam potential release

Brain Jam - A gamejam game about making a game. In a gamejam. 2019-05-03_03-13-40.gif

My participation this LD was connected to a smaller gamejam held in my city. A total of 8 games were produced in a single place, and a few businesses were involved, interested in that growing gamedev scene. In the end, my game was chosen the winner of them all in this local jam, which was GREAT :D

Well, turns out if people like the concept so much, I might as well bring it forward. Been thinking of a mobile release, with improved aesthetics and content, something akin to 'Reigns' meets 'Papers Please' meets 'Gamedev Tycoon' type of thing.

I'll be posting a revised build a couple weeks from now, and on the months to come i'll be working on the fully polished (and I mean it, I know how ugly it looks right now) mobile version, which will be put for sale, a test of the waters for a potential new game studio born out of Ludum Dare, and a show for those businesses who might just take game development more seriously as an industry with economic potential near the heart of Brazil.

If you haven't yet, please check out Brain Jam and give your feedback! We will be taking all opinions into consideration when creating the full version of the game.
