LD27

I’m in

If it’s gonna be jam or compo depends on how much time my brother will have. Tools I (or we) will be using: Construct 2, Inkscape and maybe GIMP/Paint.NET, for sounds/music I’ll try playing around a little with bfxr and iNudge. This is gonna be my first LD ever and my second gamejam overall and I’m really looking forward to it.

Finally…

…getting started. What I imagine at the moment is a panda slaying lots of cats while being on the run. Let’s see how that evolves. ^^

Music suggestion to everyone: Type “Touhou” at youtube and listen to the rock/metal playlist, it’s superawesome to listen to while developing games.

First day over…

… and still soooo much to do: Graphics, HUD, sounds, music, variety and so on, but at least the basic gameplay is there (and some blood ^^). Gonna go to bed now, it’ll be a busy day tomorrow.

screeny1

Y so serious, mr. panda?

screeny2

You are surrounded by deadly adorable cats, so cheer up a bit, will you?

Almost 8 hours left and a couple of things still to do: Music, some sounds, a proper boss and testing/balancing mainly.

Run, Panda, Run!

screeny4

I already submitted the game last night to the 48h-compo, but just couldn’t resist going to sleep afterwards, so I’m writing about it today.

I had a lot of fun during the LD and also learned much, but it was also more exhausting than I thought, although I at least tried to keep a normal sleeping schedule.

For the next LD, I will try not to drink too much right before it (was really tired on the first day ^^) and prepare better, especially considering my sounds/music/graphics skills.

My game is a top-down shooter featuring a 10 second timeframe, upgrades and a mad, cat-slaying panda on the run. The game could use a lot more polishing, but I’m still very proud of it and I think it’s pretty fun. Enjoy and good luck to all who are still going!

Day one over

It was a pretty good day. We went Bowling and had a friend over at our house who also takes part in LD28, but is soloing. We finished the whole story and concept (which was drastically changed a few hours ago, but now we’re satisfied with it, went from some overambitious Minigames-Puzzle-Adventure-Mashup to pure Point’n’Click). We also managed to finish almost half of all the graphics and maybe a third of the gameplay, the rest is due tomorrow. Our game is called “Incomplete” (I really wanted to do a BSB-Cover for the soundtrack, but couldn’t get it to sound good, how come? ^^), here are the titlescreen and a work-in-progress ingame screen:

“Incomplete” Postmortem

Incomplete was my second LD entry and the first to the jam.
I worked together with my brother on this. He did the graphics, me the code and audio.
Together we worked out the concept for the game and tested it (at least a little).

What went right:
– Working with my brother: It was almost a perfect balance of workload between us and he is just so much better at creating graphics than I alone will ever be.
– Having a friend over: He participated in the compo and it was very refreshing and exciting to see each other progress and help out sometimes.
– Some distraction: Bowling, playing cards, smoking hookah together – clears your head and I really couldn’t sit in front of the monitor all day for three days straight.
– Using Construct 2: Using a game creation software I became very familiar with was relaxing, although it required some effort to create the foundation for making a point and click adventure with it.

What went wrong:
– Not thinking the concept through: Our first concept was to create 5 games in one game, mainly really tiny minigames and one adventure screen. Unfortunately the mingames were pretty unfun, so we kicked them out and decided to go for a pure point and click adventure.
– Making a point and click adventure: Well, other genres just offer more fun and interactivity with less effort. Especially the lots of graphics were very time-consuming.
– Appointments on the final day: I had to go to the dentist, my brother to university. Since we met at our parents house for the jam, we both had to travel some distance there and lost valuable hours.
– No experience in creating music: It took quite some time and the result really isn’t that good.
– Time spent on graphics: My brother said he spent a lot of time on single small graphics and sometimes less time on the important ones.

Overall, it was a very fun experience again. We both learned a lot and are looking forward to playing and rating many of the games created and of course to LD29.

Greetings and have a nice day!

Day 1 over

Most of the actual gameplay pretty much done, tomorrow is reserved for polishing, testing and especially sound and music.

Looking forward to tomorrow, I hope I won’t be too hungover. :)

Finally done!

Title

‘All is one’ is a philosophical exploration-adventure-game. Search for certain things in a world on the edge of destruction and learn about the very nature of things.

I’m too tired at the moment to do much more than copy the text from my game page…tired, but very happy about this fun weekend and the satisfying outcome. I really think this is at least my best jam-game to date, maybe even overall. :)

Check it out and enjoy!

See you all the next couple of weeks for some serious playing, rating and commenting.

(the tildes make the name look more pretty)

PS: Be sure to check out the game of my dear bro broepi, we spent the event together and we had a blast. Cheers to you, my epic bro!

PPS: Also cheers to our comrade  dito, who unfortunately wanted way too much and ended up not finishing. Still, I think he learned a lot and had a really good time.

PPPS: (this is the last one, promised!) A big fat THX to my brother (yes, my actual brother ^^) ketzer, whose testing, feedback and general support were priceless.

Well…

fry

Best friends’ wedding on saturday, big hangover on sunday, work on monday. This is going to be a tough one, but I’ll try to give it a try.

I’ll use Unity or Construct 2, Blender and/or Inkscape, FL Studio, Audacity and maybe bfxr.

Have a great time everyone!

yeah right: get screwed at the wedding party, then try to build a game the next day in only half the time left. BALLS!

Fear – Friendly Extraterrestrial Assembly Robot

Finally finished and uploaded! Those were intense one and a half days. I had to start late because of my best friends’ wedding on saturday and on sunday I was, as expected, so very hungover. Had to decide between relaxing/doing nothing and starting work on my LD-Game. Turns out I made the right decision. :)

I’m very satisfied with how the game turned out, but see for yourselves: This link leads to the actual game(page)!

[admode] This game has it all! Particles! Screenshakes! Black holes! Physics! Even…love? [/admode]

Well then, I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as I did creating it. I’m looking forward to playing as many games as I possibly can. :)

Yours truly,

~ Erk ~

I am in

Greetings, travellers.

Here for my fifth LD. It’s always been a pleasure and a lot of fun, I guess this is not going to change this time. These are the tools I’ll use:

in

+ something that ends on fxr for the sounds.

+ some friends coming over and joining LD. We’ll probably all go for the compo and it’s going to be quite the party I think.

+ playlist consisting of lots and lots of video game soundtracks, OCRemix stuff, Sithu Aye, Perturbator, Cloudkicker and, as always, Babymetal. :)

Have a good time everyone.

The Greenening

A little late for a submission post, but I fell asleep right after finishing and had no time yesterday.

So, here it is, “The Greenening”, an incremental game about nature: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=24534

I had so much fun creating this one. Would’ve loved to add some more mechanics and polishing touches, but it turned out quite nice anyway, I think.

screen3

I want to say thank you to:
grimgraybeard for teaching me a little in the mysterious ways of pixel art, enabling me to make the game look at least half decent (check out his game here)
ketzer for testing the game and giving me immensely helpful feedback (check out his, unfortunately unfinished, game here)
broepi for testing the game and general awesomeness (he had an important exam on monday and couldn’t participate this time)

Looking forward to playing as many of your creations as I possibly can!

I had fun playing your game :) !

No way out?

Is this an “I’m in!” post? Well, not really…

It’s about my game for Mini-LD #58, which is titled “No way out?”.

1

It’s less  of a game and more of an experience or little story. If you got a couple of spare minutes there’s probably no reason not to check it out.

This is the link to the game’s page.

I’d really love to hear your feedback on this one. It’s the first time I tried something like this and also my first 3D game (though the graphics are not that spectacular), so I’m very interested in your opinions about it. Well, I always am, but this time especially.

Oh, and concerning LD32: Count me in. :)
