Quest to Understand Smart and Classic Balance
Hey everyone! So, let me start by saying that this is my first Ludum Dare and it is a pure joy to take part in it
But on to my rant. I always endeavor to understand stuff I come upon. My husband even makes fun of me that my favorite way of interacting with the world is asking questions  And I tried to understand this Smart and Classic Balance stats, believe me, I tried.
1) At the beginning I believed the provided description and assumed a simple correlation: Classic derived from the amount of ratings you gave, Smart derived from the amount of ratings you gave and the amount of Karma you got. But then I noticed that both those balances change over time with no additional data imputed (no additional ratings or Karma).
2) After analyzing this, I came to a conclusion that both just decay over time. Which would make sense if they are supposed to represent activity. And here I thought that I'm done, I finally figured it out!
But then I noticed these scary things: - High Classic Balance with barely any ratings given, example

- High Smart Balance with little Karma and quite a bit, but not that many in comparison to my other examples, ratings given

So, how does the above examples compare to those that have many more ratings given, much more Karma and yet much lower balances? For example:

Can anybody explain this to me? Where do those Balances REALLY come from? Are they simply alien entities beyond my puny human understanding? Will they take over the world when I'm sleeping? If anybody can tell me how those are actually counted, I will be eternally grateful.
