I’m In! Can’t Wait!

This is going to be my first full Ludum Dare, and I’m really looking forward to it! I’ve been watching the countdown for it since January. Crazy anticipation!!

TOOLS

  • Notepad++
  • GIMP
  • SFXR
  • HTML5
  • JavaScript

I’m hoping for a nice finished game, that’s plenty-o-fun, and fits the theme.

What theme am I hoping for? “You have no weapons”, or “You are the enemy.”

Warmup Weekend Day #1

So far I have this done:

canvas

I’m trying to make a tower defense game in at least one day. So far you can place down towers and spend money. There are no enemies yet, but if they reach the end of the trail your money will go down. If your money runs out, (from spending or the monsters) it will do this!

canvas

It’s always fun when you accidentally make a demonic “GAME OVER!” screen….

Ideas….

I kinda sorta have an idea.. maybe…

I got an idea about rolling a huge ball around and using it to crush zombies. Then, I got an another idea from that of kicking a soccer ball at the zombies. (More unconventional of an idea.) After thinking for a while, I got an idea of picking up a cat and taking it over to the zombies. This would make the cat go crazy and start attacking the zombies.

Crush the Zombehz!!

gameplay

Me playing the game, while trying to show that the ball crushes teh zombehz.

gameover

Your brain tastes good. I can has more?!?

Jam Ending

Jam ends in:

Capture

The Jam really is much longer than the Compo!

Custom Wallpaper

Simple wallpaper featuring a whole bunch of Sierpinski triangles in the background.

custom-minimalist

There is no “33” in the wallpaper, and the aspect ratio is a little wonky, but I personally still think it looks cool!

I’m In! #3539

Only goal this time is to have fun! (And not be terrible..) On LD32 I did terribly due to getting over-hyped up months before. This time, I forgot about Ludum Dare until just yesterday.

Here are my tools:

Sound: SFXR / BFXR

Editor: Notepad++

Language: JavaScript / HTML5

Graphics: Anything I can get my hands on.

Preference on theme: Don’t care, as long as I can make a game with it.

May I recommend using Sublime Text instead of Notepad? It will make your life so much easier.

@Firefox, I am using the exact same tools. Good luck!

Progress so far…

I’m surprised we got as far as we did in the time we did!

My team interpreted the theme as slightly more like “You are the Villain.” The idea was that the ghostbusters, (or monster-busters), are coming into your castle. You hire other monsters and setup traps to defend you as they work their way up to the top, where you are. The art isn’t finished, but mechanics of moving along and climbing ladders are there.

climbing

The “monster-buster” will move slower in the game, but I wanted to save space on the GIF.

Chars

“Salvatore”, our lazy main character who’s to lazy fight for himself, but terrified of death by the good guys. He hires the typical halloween-style monsters to stop the monster-busters from reaching his floor. As seen in the picture, he needs to brush his teeth more.

More Progress

Worked on the game for about seven hours yesterday, and this is what we have done.

progress

In the picture, Salvatore is shown at the top floor of his old derelict house.

The graphics for the game were originally done in vector with Flash, but were then converted to bitmaps.
