First Ludum dare!

Blog posts are always something I loved reading during previous ludum dares so I thought it was only natural to write one now that I'm fully participating. I've been watching and playing and assisting on the games of ludum dare since #32 back but never joined compo for many reasons but now I'm 18, know every part I need to know to do it myself, and am finally ready to jump right in for my very first one! Super excited, good luck everyone, See you on the other side!

Ludum Dare 46

Finally going to finish this time!

Video games are something we need during this hard time in our world, something to make us laugh and have fun. With all the free time given to everyone, I hope to see tons of amazing games from you all! I could care less about winning, my goal this Ludum dare is to FINALLY FINISH. I always join and make a half project and don't finish what I want in time and miss the deadline. So this time I'm going HAM. Been in Ludum since #32 so hopefully #46 will be a good one for me.

Hoping you will all play and enjoy whatever I decided to create!

Super excited, good luck everyone, See you on the other side!

Currently Live Tweeting

Sadly, this year my internet speed where I'm located isn't fast enough to stream for the full 48 hours so instead I'm doing something different and Live Tweeting all my updates. Catch them here https://www.twitter.com/atrashstudio

Good lucky everyone! Hope you're doing good.

NEED GAMEPLAY MUSIC ($$$)

So one thing I desperately need is nice gameplay music, I need an audio engineer or SFX creator. IT MUST ALL BE ORIGINAL WORK, you must source me where all audio samples and tracks came from and send me the original editor file whether it be audaicty/adobe premiere, anything. THIS IS A MONEY MAKING OPPORTUNITY. I'm willing to pay $10-30 for a 1-2 minute song that can be looped and willing to pay highest for quality as well as originality. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP, on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ATrashStudio Discord: ForeverTrash#9120 or COMMENT HERE!

Just getting back into it

Definitely an experience, being the first compo/jam let alone game development i've done in almost 2 to 3 years. As well as my very first finished LD compo! I'd heavily appreaciate all of you going to check out my game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/pet-life

Thank you for another good year!

It was a daunting task, but I completed my first LD jam ever! I've been entering since #32 for years, and never finished on time for compo or the jam. But this year, I finally did it. I'm super proud just for finishing, so I hope all of you will enjoy it that'd mean a ton more. Any tips or feedbacks or ratings would be heavily appreciated! Thank you all for the support thus far, and I'll see you in October!

Ludum Dare 48

Hey Everyone

Hey Guys! Been missing the last couple Ludums. So I was happy to stumble upon this one and I may be a few hours late BUT I am here nonetheless. Good luck everyone! I love this community. Not sure what I'm going to make yet but Dig Deeper is an interesting theme. See y'all on the other side!

Only took 6 hours

The compo and jam began 6 hours ago and I just now finally brainstormed an idea. Let's pray I can finish in time.

PHEW

That was a really close one. Didn't think I'd pull it off for the last few hours there. BUT nonetheless, I have FINISHED. Or at least, created a usable game. I may not have gotten all the features I wanted. Like, a better animation system, health-regeneration, better shop/store features like tracking item upgrades. I may not have finished ANY full character art for the player or enemies, I also may not have had time for any game music, only sounds for enemies taking damage. BUT, I am still proud of what I've done in the last 48 or so hours. This is what Ludum Dare is ALL about. The pain, the blood, sweat, and tears, the hysterical laughter, and especially the distracting discord community of lovely people. But, we are DONE. The weekend is over. I can't wait to play your guys games, and I hope you enjoy playing mine. Just don't judge it off the artwork please, because the code is pretty polished and there aren't really any bugs. Anyway, it was fun. Good luck to everyone! And good luck to those still working on their jam submissions. See y'all next year!

Ludum Dare 52

Let's do it!

I haven't done a Ludum Dare since COVID for Ludum Dare #48. I figure it's about time to hop back on the wagon and start developing some games! I have a few ideas for the harvest theme, but don't want to divulge them all just yet ;) I'm going to try to make it in time for the compo but as i'm a little rusty might have to enter it for the jam instead. As usual, i'm going completely solo which means I have to do the art, the music/audio, and the programming. It's quite an undertaking, but always pays off. I wish everyone good luck this year, see you in 3 days!

First night, got some art done.

So we're 6 hours in roughly, and I have my idea down. Got my first main character art done (not animations yet though). It's my first time really doing pixel art. A little bit of a slow start, but going to sleep early and wake up fresh and work all day tomorrow to finish up my art and then start programming the game. Like I said before I don't want to divulge my ideas too much yet, but it's super cool to me. I just hope the scope isn't too big to finish in time. Worst case I'll just submit for the jam, but I always try to submit to the compo. We'll see what happens. Good luck to everyone else on your games!

23 HOURS LEFT!

Well I finally finished some game logic! Got stuck on physics and collisions for about 2 hours which wasted so much time. But now i'm on a roll and thinks are looking up. The longest part is definitely going to be the art. For now i'm working on the actual logic and programming and using scribbles as the art, just to make sure everything works properly. Even if I finish the logic, and then rush the art, things aren't looking good for audio however. Once we get closer to finish, i'll share some more details about the actual gameplay and game idea itself! Good luck everyone :)

Made it in, just under the wire. Something a little different ;)

Instead of going the usual farm harvesting route, or even the second most popular soul harvesting route. I went a little darker, and did BODY HARVESTING. You're a mad scientist and all you want to do is create a monster. However body parts are very hard to come by these days, so you have to scavange through your local cemetery for body parts. Take them back to your laboratory and chop them up and combine them to create, YOUR VERY OWN MONSTER. cue lightning and flashing lights.

You can play it on itch.io now! https://forevertrash.itch.io/bodyharvest

Hope everyone had fun and had great luck with their games, i'll be spending all week playing them! For now though, goodnight, 35 hours of no sleep, but totally worth it to make compo!

Just two days left!

If anyone hasn't played my game yet, I'd appreciate heavily if you did! I'll also play yours and leave a review! Thanks everyone. It was a great Ludum Dare. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/body-harvest
