well I’m a little late to the party blogwise, anyhoo, heres a piccy of the game, I just got multiple wires working without too much fps loss (hey its flash, 20fps isnt that bad, heck its capped at 30 =p).

so I felt like putting wires up around the place :)

1 day down

So we are halfway through the event, but I dont think I’m halfway through what I need to do. with any luck though I should have something that at least remotely relates to the theme. and if not at least I’ll have some pretty looking pixels for ya :D

LD11

bring it on ^_^

so this time, I’ll be taking shots of my desk, of my food, and also theres gonna be a timelapse. seeing as I always miss out on these things, ima do them all at once now 😀

also, I plan on using that gamepad for whatever I make, even if it turns out to be a text adventure >.<

Update no1

ok, so first off, heres my finished game: [ linky ]

and heres a screeny of what I have really been doing for a good couple of hours:

of course I’m going to end up scrapping that because I didnt think it through and although I managed to make some cool code that draws super pixelated stuff from vector landscape, it just runs slowly, and wont fit the theme anyway, so the drawingboard is where I’m off too.

and here is my desk and food so far:

its getting messy. also I would like to point out, that normally those sausage rolls are awesome, that batch was just gross, I may have to order in the pizza sooner than planned >__>

Dot2doT

so I couldnt think of what else to do with theme, so here is a little puzzle/score/maze-em-up.
[ This here is the download link ]

sorry its not as funny as my other games :(

and heres a final desk shot, make sure to note the almost finished pack of hobnobs, the hardcore biscuit for hardcore people 😀

ALIENS VS PEDRO

whoever wins… I get a friendship bracelet!

I’m definately starting a bit late, so I dont know if I can get anything done in time, but the idea is that you play as pedro and try and get people to vote for you before they are attacked by facehuggers (^.^)

LD12

so far so good…

really not used to making editors for stuff, but I think I’m blundering through pretty well:

(heres a link to a web version so you can play with what I have so far)

use the arrow keys to move the cursor, and click the tile types to alter the current tile.

didnt quite think the tile thing through, so I’ll have to have a way of having more than one plane per tile. after that I’ll be getting on to textures :)

That’s really technologically impressive for 24 hours! Are you going to be sharing your code when it’s done? I’m curious how you accomplished a couple of things, because this game is completely different from the type of thing I usually build in Flash. 😛
08. Feb 2009 · 08:39 UTC
sure, is there anything specific you want to know about? its quite a mess so if you let me know I’ll make sure that part is commented :)

really cool look to this. I enjoy all the little bar chart stats on the bottom as well. the lasso capture seems to be really flexible and fun to capture with. I suck at using the arrow keys for this though and keep running into cells and resetting my score. I think I would have an easier time if this was mouse based perhaps or at the very least if the arrow keys were tuned a little better. I’d also love to see some source commented or not as I’ve been gathering examples of various flash code for the day coming soon where I’ll be trying to learn that beast. :)

I like the main mechanic; it’s fun and it feels really solid. Did it take you long to find the right parameters for the movement and lasso physics?

I really enjoyed watching this game come together. I loved the graphics. Very clean and simple. The lasso mechanics were a lot of fun. The way the oval freaks out when he gets hit is fantastic. The only place I got a little confused was with the game’s time – I would have like a little more feedback related to it. OTOH, watching my combo scores was a lot of fun. Overall, a really interesting, lovely game.

Interesting experiment. I like the lasso effect but for some reason I wanted to see it constrict movement and collide even before I let it go.

The graphics are really cool in a simplistic way. The main mechanic is neat, but it didn’t really movitivate me to play longer. Maybe some kind of sense of urgency could’ve helped. :)

[WP_UnityObject src="http://www.sophiehoulden.com/randomstuff/ludum/LD15_web03.unity3d" width="560" height="420"/]

left and right to steer, space to jump.

I know its not perfect but I’m on the way :D

Hoverboards!

I always wanted to make a game with them.

Ooh – this is looking promising – there’s a really nice smooth feel to the player movement already :)
29. Aug 2009 · 11:54 UTC
Nicely tweaked controls already, good stuff!
29. Aug 2009 · 12:19 UTC
Wow — controls and feel are great! I love the bobbing action…perfect.
29. Aug 2009 · 12:37 UTC
hell yeah– i second that the controls and bobbing rock!

Character get!

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

the character is really a rough for now, especially what animations are there. also I improved collisions a little.

anyhoo, playable after the link:

[WP_UnityObject src="http://www.sophiehoulden.com/randomstuff/ludum/LD15_web04.unity3d" width="560" height="420"/]

arrows to steer,  space to jump.

I think for th next build I’ll try ‘hold space to crouch, release to jump’ so variable power jumps are possible, might even make the board faster if crouching

Light and Sound

Morning LDers,  added board sounds, the begginings of a combo system, and I’m playing around with lighting so my lava pieces will look cool hopefully.

I've run out of onomatopoeia to type here, thats the real reason I added sound in this build =p

playable after the link:

  • Left/Right = steer
  • Hold Space = Crouch (speeds up a little)
  • Release Space = Jump (hold longer to jump higher)
  • up/Down = Kickflip
  • Tab = toggle cameras
  • 1,2 & 3 = change board sound effect

I’m going to have some breakfast ow I think :)

Combos, Lava!

Combos are working, though there is still only the 1 ‘trick’, you can add to your combo by doing air jumps, and getting *really* close to lava (best to try when in slowmo).

Lava in games is always cool right?
