My 1st LD and ‘The Red Button’ is born

Welcome To ‘The Red Button’; a fast paced unforgiving platformer. You have 10 seconds to reach the red button or else. Simple … Right?

There are a few obstacles standing in your way but with only 10 seconds on the clock speed is your only option. There are a total of 10 playable levels in my submission; I would have liked to add more but that would have meant less polishing! Your progress is saved as are your level times.

I’ve experimented with the graphics here and couldn’t be happier; they seem to really compliment the fast paced gameplay. Don’t take my word for it though, check it out!

For the best gameplay use a controller!

Everything was creating in under 48 hours. The music is a chip remix of a sample from Better Off Alone – Alice DJ that I created in this 48 hour time span.

If you like the game be sure to let me know @greeny_games! I had a lot of fun making this over the weekend and may carry on with it further down the line.

Here’s some screenies and if it sound interested go play the game HERE!

You get marked on how quick you did the level by the color of your time at the top.
Green – Fast | Orange – Average | Red – Just Made It

Get used to dying. From working on this I have a save file with
300+ deaths on it.

Second Lundum Dare – Heist!

Evening Lundum Dare.

Greeny here, second Lundum Dare and it’s going well. Was stuck for ideas when I first saw the theme but I’ve got a solid idea and progress is coming along nicely.

My entry this time is Heist! You are a robber, you have stolen a load of gold & diamonds and you have to find your way out. You can’t see much and only have 1 IR blast to help you find your way.

I think a gif here will help explain:

heist

(The gif above is at a strange ass size for some reason. Click it to view the original)

Hopefully it’s clear how I’ve incorporated the theme and with some more complex levels (the one in the gif is a test) I think it will be quite challenging. The time limit is there for score. The quicker you finish the more score you’ll get. You also loose some of your loot if you bump into stuff.

Still lots to go but it’s a solid end to day 1. I have uni work to do!

Cya when I check back in tomorrow sometime. Goodluck devs!!

Third and best Ludum Dare! Physics Sandbox-ish

Greeny here, back for my third Ludum Dare!

Last year I wasn’t too keen on the theme but i’m super excited this time around. I’ll let the gif below introduce you to my game :D

krakenSmall

Now some context. You play as the Kraken and some bastard pirates are trying to steal treasure of your island. With your tentacle (ragdoll physics) you have to smash them out the water. The physics are a little off and need work, but already it’s a lot of fun as it’s so unpredictable. If the pirates get away with the treasure you loose.

There’s lots of room for me to take this so im VERY excited: i think it would be perfect for touch screen gaming. Lots more to do, but the premise and main physics are there. Now to add gameplay and polish. Video here for those that want a closer look :)

Best of luck to all those still in, and if you feel like dropping out DONT! Keep going and submit what you have!

Good Luck LD!

… And my third LD is complete

This was a great LD for me this year. Regardless of where my game ranks, I had a ton of fun creating it and was very inspired. I’ve also now go the base of what it think could be a really great app that I’m going to explore.

I’m from the UK so LD started at 2am for me but I decided to sleep and start in the morning so I’d be fresh. Soon as I got up I checked the theme and within 5 minutes was coding. It was such an easy transition I got off to a flying start. Not like last year. I really wasn’t into last years theme and it reflected in the game.

I used GM:Studio’s physics engine for the first time during this project and learned it can do some really fun things so I’m looking forward to playing with that more.

You can check out my finished game here and here’s some screen shots. Hope you all had a good weekend and I look forward to playing and rating your games!

Christmas Tycoon. Here’s a nice gif …

So this is my 5th Ludum dare! Last year I finished 25th overall so have a lot of pressure to give a repeat performance.

My idea is for a tycoon game where you have 24 days ’til Christmas to produce as many presents as possible. Fits the theme well and is festive so i’m happy. :)

You’ll manage elves, choose which presents to build and generally run the workshop. Score is based on happiness you receive through the present you manage to deliver on Xmas.

I’m very pleased with how it’s going, although i feel i may have over-scoped. Onwards!

*Repost as the gif wouldn’t run last time!*

Don’t push too hard or you’ll shart!

Afternoon from the UK! A solid 6 hours into development, spent a couple on watching F1, and I have a solid idea, a bunch of art and some core mechanics.

You play as an as yet unnamed chefs assistant, given the task of cleaning a disgusting kitchen before it opens. Unfortunately your only weapon is your equally disgusting flatulence. Manage your pressure and stink meters to create a range of different toots, each with different effects and visuals, but don’t push too hard for too long. Wouldn’t want to shart your pants now would you?

Here’s a tease. 😀 Having fun with this one. It’s so stupid.

Dinosaur in a top hat? … Dinosaur in a top hat

After a slow start, couldn’t think of an idea, things are storming forward. This will be my 7th LD, so past failures and lessons-learned are paying dividends.

My idea involves a dinosaur who doesn’t really want to be one. Here’s a dinosaur in a top hat!

Working on my level background now also, but think I’ve spent enough time on art, so dropping this quick update before moving onto some programming. Here’s my WIP backdrop. It’s going to be all parallax and pretty!

Hope this LD is going great for you all, and looking forward to seeing more peoples work. :) ONWARDS!!!!
