L.Y.L.A. - A game that was more fun developing than playing

This year was rough for me. Pretty rough. But here I am. LD44 meant a lot to me, because it was the first time in 2019 that actually worked out as planned. I managed to stay focused. My scope was realistic-ish, even though I had to scrap some content for the sake of releasing it as a compo game. The result looks and feels good enough for my own taste. It runs pretty solid. But it is far from perfect.

One honest review (and I am thankful for those) came in already and I have to fully agree: The content isn't fun. Maybe I wanted it to be too edgy. Maybe I had to put my feelings out there somehow. I don't know. And I haven't slept enough to do a proper analysis.

What I can say however is on a very positive note: It was pure fun developing it. Making charts, writing code, improving it over time and seeing it grow was an experience I haven't had in a while. It reminded me of what I want to do in life. And why I love it. It felt good. And it made me feel alive.

I want to thank every single jammer here and on the Discord for being such an inspiring source of creativity.

For the next jam, as well as for some other ideas floating around, I am looking for regular collaborators. So if you like anything about L.Y.L.A. or just need someone who simply enjoys fiddling around in Unity and C#, let me know. I need more practice and projects under my belt.

If you are into text adventures / rpgs or just a mind experiment, feel free to have a look and rate L.Y.L.A. HERE

Keep on jammin',

L.Y.L.A. - I need Feedback for an improved version!

So the first round of feedback was great, thanks to everyone who has played and rated the game so far. The comments that came up made me think about how this game could have turned out, hadn't I rushed for the compo. And therefore, I plan on gathering more and more constructive feedback to give this game a one-week-treatment after the play+rate phase is over. I don't want to retroactively jumble up the ratings, but I think there is some potential in there and maybe it could actually grow into something bigger.

That one feature that I hated to scrap due to the time limit was an actual representation of relationships you form and make over the time. The plan was to let the player have an actual journey to a city or a country, do some things there for a certain amount of time, get into conversations, having to decide between multiple people and stuff like that. That's partially written already, but that will definitely become the main focus of the "Definitive Edition".

Nonetheless, the more feedback I get the better the do-over will turn out, so please, take a few minutes and rate my game.

SPOILER-HINT: You'll get to the end faster by making yourself appear older to LYLA.
