After much pondering over ideas, hammering out gameplay details, and skeleton coding all the while, I finally got around to making an actual game!
For the game concept, I didn’t feel up to the “breeding” and “physical/mental growth” subtexts filling my notes. This was mostly because they struck me as requiring too much art or unfamiliar algorithms for just two days, especially since I was horribly unprepared in the first place. I wound up settling on “evidence of evolution,” and convincing people one way or the other on creationism vs evolution. The thing is, in this game it turns out that all the talk about evolution and fossils being a trick of the devil is actually true, but you don’t want people to know that. You play as his minions helping to plant fossils in the earth, swaying people to the heretic’s theory and keeping your own existence a secret.

Gameplay-wise, it kinda resembles one of those castle defense games where you mash dudes with a catapult. People dig down from the surface, looking for evidence of hell and thus confirming their faith. If too many succeed, you lose. You combat this by launching fossils up into the ground for them to discover instead, causing them to return to the surface with evidence of evolution and increase your score. Charging your shots can also produce more convincing and higher-scoring fossils, but takes a lot of time you may need for blocking lots of incoming foes. It’s kinda like using a catapult full of landmines to stop soldiers, except you’re ramming satan’s lies into the earth at high velocities. By the way, don’t overcharge your shots and hit people because gibbing them with flaming hell-bones is almost as bad as letting them see where you live.
The player’s mechanics are feature-complete so I’ve finally got something playable, if not yet a real game. Next comes the enemies, a score system & failure condition, and art where I actually tried. If I have time I may also add highly-faithful foes who aren’t convinced or stopped except by those super-charged fossils.
maybe the game could try to add less of the colors that you do have. e.g. i touched yellow and red, so the game should dump more blue on me than normal.
