Duh. Of course I’m in.

Art – Gimp

Sound – Audacity/LMMS

Engine – Unity3D

3D art – Blender3D

Language(s) – Javascript and/or C#

Ideas/brainstorming – A marker, some tape, some paper, and my wall. I’m gonna tape paper on the wall and so I have a drawing board. Mostly just because it sounds fun, but also because I brainstorm better if I have a lot of room to do so. Actually, I lied. I’m only doing it because it sounds fun :3

Brainstorming setup

So, I usually stick with the vanilla text document for brainstorming, but this time around I’ve decided to have a bit of fun. I found these massive sheets of paper in my room, and I’ve taped 6 of them to my wall to create a whiteboard sort of thing, and gathered some markers and some post-it notes. Just because why not?

What time is it? (Literally)

What time zone do the good ol’ Ludum Dare runners work by?

Eastern Time — it should start at 9PM EDT

My computer’s in the repair shop, but I’m in..?

Everyone’s doing an “I’m In” post, and so of course naturally I have to make one as well (Tradition!)

This will be my 7th Ludum Dare Compo, but my 8th game submitted for Ludum Dare jams (My first was for a mini LD a while back)

This time around I’ll be using pretty much the same tools as always:

Machine: My computer which is currently broken and in the repair shop

Engine: Unity

Sound: Audacity and my own creativity and restrictions, possibly LMMS if I can be bothered

3D art: Blender!

Texture work: Probably Blender texture paint, except for things that need to be precise, such as UI elements and things of the sort, for which I’ll use good ol’ Gimp.

I wish us all the best of luck, and another great Ludum Dare! 😀

Slaughtering themes :D

How long do you guys spend on average slaughtering themes?

I tend to spend about 10 minutes a day but I feel I should be spending a little more time persuading the system to choose a theme I like… What about you?

Confused about Feeback Friends?

This is less of a problem and more a thirst for understanding.

I’ve been playing games and commenting on them, and my balance is 97.

What I want to know is: Is a higher balance the thing to shoot for? Obviously you shouldn’t let balance control how quickly you rate games or anything anyway, but I’d like to know if a higher, lower, or 100 balance is the thing to aim for.

I just did a basic test of this, my entry had 100 balance, I commented on a game, and now my balance is 104, and if you sort by balance(default option) on feedback friends, higher balance comes first. So you want a high balance so that more people see your stuff, but if you have a high balance that means that not many people have actually given feedback relative to how many comments you’ve given.

Ludum Dare 37

Can’t wait for the keynote :D

That’s pretty much it, I’m super pumped for LD and I hope everyone has a box in their head where they’re storing up creative energy for Dec. 9th!

Don’t fear, I’m slaughtering all the themes here…!

Since my download/upload speeds are both currently at 0.44 Mbps, I feel this is a good time to (instead of doing nothing or playing Mario) site back and slaughter some themes. With the way my internet is, I should be here for a very long time.

Update: I’ve now slaughtered 1,000 themes, and I plan to keep up the pace until voting starts.

Thanks!

Major progress, first day success :D

I’ve finished the engine (I think). I’ve started in on graphics 😀 Next up (after graphics) is sound, then polish! Hope everyone’s Ludum Dare is going well :)

Cool shades are in again, and so am I

Ayee, it’s Ludum Dare time again!

For you returners, settle down for another go! For you new people, have fun and enjoy yourself. Try not to worry too much 😉

No matter your situation, learn something and make something magical next weekend!

I'm test(in)g!

This is just a test post, have fun

Possibly Psychoactive Pufferfish is coming along rather well :D

Ahh, we're at that 17-18 hours left mark where you've either already finished your game or are pretty sure you won't finish in time.

My game is still in the "toy" phase. I've got all the mechanics, but as of right now it's just a fun messy playground. What's left to do is to change it from being a toy to being a game! That's easier said than done when you've only got 17.5 hours left and you're sleep deprived.

Here, have a look at what I've done. Ignore the messiness, it'll be all cleaned up and game-ified by the end of this thing. Also ignore the music, that's not part of the game.

I hope your games are turning out better than you had planned, everyone!

I'm in for my 11th time!

Well, my 10th solo. Man, even after 9 times of slaving away 48 hours while trying to balance health, programming, sleeping, and eating chocolate, ludum dare still has that charm to it. I'm super excited to go insane over the weekend again, and it's awesome to see that so many of you feel the same!

For beginners: Don't be scared. Just have fun! Make something so insanely small that there's no way you won't finish it. The feeling you get from finishing something simple is 1000x better than biting off more than you can chew. So enjoy it, and make something fun :)

For those who have done it before: Try something new! Force yourself to put your perfectionism on pause. Keep yourself hydrated, fed, and well rested. Above all, have fun and challenge yourself -- that's what this is all about!

Slaughtering themes :p

Capture.PNG

I'd like to slaughter as many themes as possible, but I don't think I'll get through them all. I plan on shooting for about 50% of them in the next day or two, then we'll see if I feel like continuing.

How many themes have you guys slaughtered? (or how many do you plan on slaughtering?)

Guys, only 25% of the jam remains! Here's my game so far.

The idea is that these two guys are playing cards (Go Fish,) and one of them doesn't really get how to play. That's why you'll play for him. Pretty boring, right? Well, depending on which cards you play, you'll have to fight enemies and try to survive to the end of the card game.

9 hours left and my game is allllmost done.

After falling asleep at my desk while programming last time in a hellish loop, I told myself I wouldn't go without sleep during ludum dare anymore. Well, I'm accidentally doing it again. I don't have to stay up as long this time, but I'm already sleepy and there are about 9 hours left in the compo.

That being said, I'm pretty happy with my game. I can easily have it finished before the compo ends, but I'd really like to see if I can get myself to crunch in some extra polish and charm.

Good luck everyone, I hope your games are turning out like you had hoped!
