Mini LD 42, I’m In

I wasn’t sure at first if I was going to have time to participate in the MiniLD, but then I saw the theme and how could I pass it up?

Here’s an obligatory deskphoto:

miniLd42

After mild success in LD26 I wanted to brush up my skills before coming back (and learn to make a proper applet… LWJGL doesn’t like applets I learned), but there’s no time for that so I’m going to make a Java download only game, inspired by the work of Douglas Adams, one of my personal heroes.

My goals are to finish (close to) on time, make an interesting (hopefully funny) game, and produce a time-lapse of me working (I’m thinking about a text based game though, so it might be a bit boring). Here we go!

First Days Work

Nine hours of work in, the engine and graphics are all finished. I just have to add all the game text.

ScreenCap01

I’m making a text based game (and it’s been a long time), you can try out the first days work here. It doesn’t have a lot of gameplay yet, but it’s starting to function.

15 Hours Two Days And Finished

Just finished my MiniLD 42 game entry.
Screen01I’m not super happy with it, but I never did like text adventures… or writing. Come to think of it why did I make a text adventure?

You can check it out here. It was my first time playing around with screen capture software too, I’ll be uploading a video later. Though it’s 80% me typing and 20% me being away from the computer. All in all this was a good experience and looking over the other game I’m excited to see what other people make. While the game is “finished” I had planed more, but lost my motivation and decided to finish it a bit short, hopefully it’s still an okay game.

One Night, No Pictures :(

Previous Post (from Solifuge) http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2013/08/23/we-be-jam-in/

After five hours work we don’t have any pictures to show for our work, yet. So far we’ve come up with an ambitious end goal, and a basic game loop and graphics rendering system.
After staying up later than intended last night I appear to be the first one up today, once the rest of the team arrives we will start the Livestream! Until then I’m going to eat some oat meal and set up our CVS repository.

Good Luck Everyone!

I’m in

My third time in, but it will be my first time not working with a group. I hope to finish something for the 48 hour competition, but I’ll do the jam if I fail that.
I was too nervous not to use a codebase, so I’ll be using one I just whipped up (hopefully it won’t hurt more then it helps).

“Engine”: https://github.com/hitchh1k3r/JavaGameEngine
Graphics: Inkscape, Photoshop
Audio: Bfxr, Abundant Music, VLC, Audacity

Goal: Finish something that at least one person would call a game ^_^

Good luck everyone!

Jumping Box-man

I wasn’t a fan of the theme at first, but I’m coming around…

I have big plans for this one, but for now it’s just a simple jumping box:
A Jumping Box

Goodnight all, I’ll see you tomorrow.

Snowman already won. Search your heart, you know it to be true.

Top 15

I had a lot of fun picking out my favorite games last time, so I’ve done it again. They are still broken up into categories that I think each game excels at. I’ll be interested to see how highly these games rank against all of the entries.

Haha, I love that you’ve managed to squeeze even the keyboard in there.

Day 0 – Shapeshifting

Decided to work with Solifuge this time around, and we decided to go with a pretty basic interpretation. We’re hoping to make up for it in awesome features.

Oh and I made a cube that squidges… it’s adorable.

Shapeshifting

Day 2, Must have features

Today I started to focus on the must have features of the game, like these dual joystick controlled eyeballs…

Spinning Eyeballs

Tomorrow I’ll have to finish the ever growing list.

Trying to Name The Game (PS. I'm In)

Person Running From Nuclear Reactor

My ideas list so far: - Power Run - Bionic Legs - Leg Day - Nuclear Feet - Neutron Escape

or I guess it all else fails I could just name it on the nose...

I'm In

I will join the torrent of "I'm In" Posts!

This time around I'll be working with @naali and @tlynstar in the jam, but we hope to have our game done by Sunday night!

Here are the jam games we've worked on before:

Day 0

Fighting sleep to get something remotely resembling our game idea done (and a nice name generator ^_^):

Day0.png

Whew.... now for sleep .zZ

Tomorrow we shall make a game!

Day 1

Did not get as much done as I had hoped for today, but did play around with getting userdata from the Ludum Dare website API, and got distracted by a bunch of neat UI gimmicks.

Tomorrow I will have to work twice as fast to catchup to the schedule!

LD 42

We're In!

In the intrest of saving time let me just say now (before the theme announcement), that I hate this theme...

Again to save time, let me say I'm starting to come around to it. After all some of my favorite work was on game made for theme I was not crazy about.

I'll be working with @solifuge and @naali this time around, and this will be my 17th Ludum Dare event!!!

OLD GAMES.gif

My goals for Ludum Dare 42 are: * Make a game with (original) audio (Sound Effects and Music -- since my last 5 games had no Audio ranking). * Make a less original game (stressing about the uniqueness of my past games has caused them to suffer in other areas, I'd like to make a fun game this time, and hope the uniqueness comes out of the process, but is not the focus). * Have a game that could be finished (but needs polish) as soon as possible, ideally by Sunday night (in the past our Jam entries have pushed the time limit, and never recieved any proper playtesting -- I would like to fix that).

Good luck, and have fun everyone!
