Human Writes Code

NoseyBeaks is IN!

That's right. The news that you've all be entirely ambivalent about is here! The NoseyBeaks crew is once again doing the LD Jam ~extremely hushed, almost entirely silent, cheering~

That would be @Lenny-Rudeberg, @tegantiu and me. Doing the jam. Together.

We're tight on time this... err.. time. However, we'll see if we can limp across the line.

Serving up games with: - Engine: Godot 4 - Art: Photoshop/Gimp and maybe even Aseprite. - 3D stuff: Blender - Music/Audio: SFXR, Logic X and whatever DAW @Lenny-Rudeberg is using these days (Fruity? StudioOne? ) - IDE: I'll just use Godot's text editor... but if I have to use something else it'll be VSCode or Notepad++ - Food: Coffee. Maybe something involving ham and cheese. Depends on the theme.

We like to share the work around a bit but, broadly speaking, I'll be writing code and @lenny-rudeberg and @tegantiu will be doing art.

We were super happy with our game in the last LD Jam - Going Up - so we fully expect to be bitterly disappointed with what we produce this time!

Good luck everyone!

Big dumb game ideas for big dumb game idea... err... needers?

Game ideas are hard. Good game ideas are even harder. Thankfully, absolutely steaming hot garbage ideas are pretty easy. So, as is tradition on LDJam Eve, I shall do my best to provide you with only the finest absolutely idiotic and worthless ideas that I can.

Please... enjoy. But not too much you saucy devils!

Summoning - Numbers. All you can see are numbers. But... can you add them? Welcome to..... the SUMmoning.

It spreads - A game about bedspreads. Specifically, bedspreads with large prints of Pennywise the Clown. Oh, you want me to give you game mechanics too? What do I look like? Some kind of dumb game idea guy?! Sheesh.

Recycle - First, you cycled never. Then you cycled once. In this game, you answer the question on every ones lips. Can you cycle once more? That's right. It's time to ReCycle. ~epic thunderous Hans Zimmer audio sting~

Tunnels - No one likes to spill things. You go to pour water into a bottle and half of it runs down the sides. It's just the worst. So, here's a game about the greatest tool ever invented. You can choose from any of thousands of liquids with full physically modelled fluid dynamics and any of millions (yes, MILLIONS!) of meticulously modelled jars, bottles and containers. And then you get to use... your FUNNEL! Ah... shit. It starts with a T doesn't it. My bad.

Strange machines - A little spinning gearwheel that offers to sell you a pound of cheddar cheese. A 1950s toaster made entirely of wet sand. Two angry yellow electric coffee grinders who constantly vomit crayons and smell like old socks. All these and more can be brutally and viscerally murdered in this non-stop action packed first person shooter! Kill them. Kill them all!

Single use - A game about taking your single friend out as a third wheel during date night because they have a car and can drive you around. Chaufeur? That's single use number one. Get them to pay for movie tickets because you forgot your wallet? That's single use number two! How many different ways can you use your single? Wait... is this unethical?

Strength in numbers - You play as the puny number 1. A skinny stick of a number. How can you ever compete with the bulging physique of the number 8? You can't compare to the chiselled body of number 4. But then, a dodgy digit outside the gym offers you some suspicious stuff that he claims will ADD mass and make you stronger. Are you willing to do what it takes to unleash the strength in numbers? (Whew... what a stinker!)

Fishing - You heard about the new craze all the cool cats are doing? It involves cosplaying as Phil Fish and making wishes. They call it "fishing". Should probably make a game about it. Maybe use some arty-fish-al intelligence.

Push your luck - A game about sneaking up on leprechauns that are standing on the edges of cliffs. Well, you can guess the rest. Poor l'il guys.

Digging - Have you heard about the new craze all the cool cats are doing? It involves cosplaying as Cedric Diggory and playing music gigs. They call it "digging". Sounds absolutely wild. Should probably make a game about it. Ya dig?

Cartography - A real-time exploration simulator set in the 1400s where you circumnavigate the globe and plot the coastlines of various places. A single game takes over 18 months and for most of it, you're just bobbing around in the middle of an empty ocean. You do get to use a sextant, though. But only twice a day.

Pick your poison - You are just one man. One man with an unnatural love affair with a crescent-shaped digging tool. How many friendships have you destroyed to avoid discovery? How many jobs have you quit to hide your shame? Can you forever hide it from the world or will your secret be your undoing? This is: "Pick. Your poison." A visual novel.

Decay - Decay. Deee-caayy. Deee. K? D.K. Donkey Kong. The game idea is Donkey Kong.

Collapse - A game about running laps with a partner. Just two dudes running laps. You call them co-laps.

Mutation - What do you call a train station for cows? Huh? Oh, it's not pronounced 'moo-tation'? Well... so much for that idea, I guess.

You don't play as the main character - I don't? Geez. Way to be a debbie-downer. You sound just like my parents.

That last one cut a bit too deep. You know what, screw this stupid game suggestion stuff. I'm going to the pub.

We SUMMONED the strength to complete our game!

The NoseyBeaks team has once again dragged ourselves across the line.

Well done @tegantiu and @lenny-rudeberg ... you are really summon else!

For the rest of you, I hope you have fun playing...

Hey, I actually made something!

I didn't think I would get to participate in this LD but I managed to find a few hours this afternoon and made this little game.

It's super simple but a little challenging and kind of charming (in my opinion).

You can play and rate it here

Good luck to everyone who's still working away! Have fun!

I'm IN!

Been a few LD Jams since I last participated but I'm back baby...

Going to be doing a bit of a support role this time as @lenny-rudeburg runs the show, but I'm keen to dust off the game dev skills for a weekend.

I'm a Godot convert these days, but this time around we'll be using:

Engine: Unity 6 (ugh... booted it up the other day, it just feels so clumsy)

Code Editor: VSCode

Audio: Logic X

3D Assets: Blender

2D Assets: Aseprite (probably)

Brain: Whatever dribbles out of my ears at the end of the working week...

Good luck, have fun, everyone!

Here's hoping for the greatest theme that humanity has ever known! But remember... the theme ALWAYS sucks.
