I'm Ready to Hustle!

I want to start off by saying that having completed very few games so far (especially over the course of months) I'm hoping that this will really push me to complete something; however, two days isn't much time, and seeing as this will be my first time participating in a Ludum Dare challenge, I'm honestly not sure if I'll be efficient enough to make something in time. Regardless, I'm going to try my best.

So there you have it, I'm ready to hustle and give this challenge everything I've got! I wish all of you fellow game developers good luck in this Ludum Dare!

Nothing special, but I still did what I set out to do, which was make a game in two days.

I do feel like people need to start giving actual criticism instead of over-glorifying some good aspects and then completely ignoring the bad, or sugar-coating it in some way. I've participated in two game jams now and both of them have suffered from this problem. I hate to admit that I'm also guilty of it. I think it's because we don't enjoy talking negatively about someone else's work, but at the same time we have get our game played somehow.

I still enjoyed this a lot, and I'm glad I got to be a part of it. Thank you all for a good first Ludum Dare! I hope to be able to join the next one!

This is the sort of stuff I want to have in my game...

jcemdog/emzoomin.png

Things like an evil dog with an afro. The actual image is 64x64, but I scaled it up to 256x256 so it would be easier to see.

I made it while warming up for the jam-- you know, just getting familiar with my tools and all that. It's actually too bad, because I really liked this creation but now I won't be able to use it for Ludum Dare. What do you think of it? Feel free to give tips for improvement.

30 minutes left...

I'm probably going to sleep through the first few hours or so, but I can't wait to see what theme gets picked!

I barely made it. Again.

This was my second Ludum Dare. I think it went a lot better than the last, although that's sort of an apples to oranges thing since the last game was drastically different in essence... but still, I'm extremely happy with the end product! It might be ~~a little~~ extremely quirky and weird, but I'm proud of it!

I would greatly appreciate if you tried my game!

If you decide to play it, please leave some feedback. It doesn't matter if you like it or hate it-- if what you have to say is really that horrible, then feel free to leave an anonymous comment. :P

If you leave good (and non-anonymous) feedback, I'll return the favor to the best of my ability; if you leave something generic or lazy, I probably won't.

Here's a typical story... with a twist!

Assist a boy on his quest to save a mysterious girl, in this absurdly bizarre narrative…

| | | | | --- | --- | --- | |screen7.png|screen9.png|screen8.png|

Features:

  • NES-style graphics
  • Shrines which you must offer items to
  • Choices to make
  • Entertaining dialogue and events
  • 4 different ways to end the story

My Second Ludum Dare

Results of the Shrining:

These were the results of my first game:

It seems like my second game did better than the first in a lot of ways-- but then you'll notice that the actual ratings are a bit lower. This is not surprising, though. The Shrining focused on story to the point of sacrificing gameplay and was full of inside jokes, so I didn't expect other people to enjoy as much as I did.

Regardless of the results, I thoroughly enjoyed participating in this Ludum Dare! I got to make a quirky game that never would've existed otherwise, which is awesome!

My Suggestions

I'm not sure how many people have already suggested these ideas, but I did like the "Anything can change" suggestion that @samurai-ducks had, so I put it in there as well.

Current Progress

I've never been very good at making graphics... bandicam 2019-04-27 09-35-29-292.png - bandicam 2019-04-27 09-35-43-768.png

That's all I have so far. I guess I should really stop making blog posts and get to hustling, eh?

Hour 4

I've been working for about four hours, and this is what I have. Keep in mind that I'm terribly slow when it comes to making graphics, so that's where most of my time went.

Wish me luck with the player controller-- that's probably going to be the hardest part for me!

Fitting Music

I only have a few hours left to wrap things up... and I'm still not quite finished.

That song sure captures the mood right now! (Also, am I allowed to post something like this?)

Finally Reached 20

It's nice to not have to worry now, but I think I'll continue rating other games anyway-- it would be nice to reach 30+ for the first time!
