Ludum Dare 46

Back for the first time in a fair while

We're going to have another crack at Ludum Dare, been a few years out of it but excited to get back into things. In the past we've competed in LD 24-29, 33-35, 39 so it will be exciting to have another go.

After being bogged down in our main game project and writing our own engine. We've decided to give Unity a go, wish us luck.

Tools will be something along the lines of: * Unity * Visual Studio * Blender * Paint.NET * Ableton / Reaper

For a bit of fun. Here's a screenshot from our first ever LD game from back in 2012. We would've been about 15 years old!

Making some progress on the art front.

We've got a solid idea underway and have decided to do the sensible thing and spend some time working on the art firstly. Here's a screenshot! screencap.JPG

A Walk In The Park - How we think we went

Hello all,

Thought we would share a few thoughts on how we feel we went in the Jam. We used Unity for the first time ever having come from a Java background and writing games in our own engines using OpenGL through LWJGL. We have had a few projects on the go with our own engine and have thoroughly enjoyed the ease of getting what we want out of unity. It was a nice change being able to spend more time on the art, story and gameplay etc than getting things to render properly on the screen. That being said, both ways have their merits.

A walk in the park went really well for us, our first 3D game using unity, after a few tutorials to familiarise ourselves with the basic structure of a project. It was also our first time using making 3d assets for a game, using blender has been a steep learning curve but I think we're getting there and I'm very happy with how this games art turned out.

As always, it was nice to get back into development and completing a Ludum Dare, our last one was 3 or so years ago.

If you haven't already, head over to our game page and have a play.
