So the post mortem now (it seems to be the tradition!)
It was my first participation in the ludum dare … and by the way my first game with Unity.
I used at least all of this tools: blender 2.6, unity 4, gimp 2.8, inudge and audacity (everything was free to use ^^)
Goods points :
– I managed to make and finish a game : I got the idea, made the modelisation, programmming, music, …
– There isn’t any “critical” bug
– I learned Unity basis in a very short lapse of time
– and I managed to create something quite interesting
Bad points :
– Didn’t manage to finish it like I wanted: graphism could have been better, moving platforms were also intended; …
– Bad choices for the controls
– Gameplay a bit too slow
Next :
…you liked the concept? Follow my post, I started to work on a 2nd version wich will clear most part of these bad points!

Play the game (web player available)
I forgot to make an announcement but I add a post compo version, the game is the same, it’s just more pleasant to play!
(And by the way I now rated more than 20 games ^^)

(a beautifull gif with an awesome quality ^^’)

Update:
-more user-friendly controls
-faster (the 48h version is a bit slow)
-improve a little bit arms modelisation & animation
-add a few sounds
-add an end scene

Hope you’ll have fun!

At first it was a a team work, made during the Jam Shaker at Cité des Sciences (Paris). The final result on sunday was a 2D fighting game with dinosaurs but the part where the players should have mixed DNA to create their own dinosaur wasn’t achieved. So the game wasn’t really interesting…
So sunday evening I took the dinosaurs sprites, created a new unity scene, and made a completely different game, very simple, but with a more polished universe : Triceratops.
This post compo game contains the following improvements :
– Controls : camera improvements and strafing available
(on the surface, beneath the surface, these monsters will follow you…)

Not much time for this LD but I’ll try to make something. Depending on the theme I’ll use :
Html5, Js & Firebase or Unity 5
+ Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, Ableton Live
+ Tea !
Well it’s not the mighty game I was expecting, but I least I finished this 48h VR game. It’s an exploration game with a small scenario including alternate endings. There is also a classic PC version for those who don’t have a Google Cardboard. Post mortem coming soon (why did I spent time to make 10 different type of rock instead of polishing the existing asseeeets) and maybe a more polished version if I have time.

So what happened for my first VR game?

Hi there, just released the first post jam update, the game is quite similar to the one we made during the jam in 48h but we've polished a few things like the design, some bugs and some sound design. If you liked it stay tuned, more L.I.F.E. should come soon!
Try now: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/life-corp

A first update to my mini game is now available, with better display for full screen, small polished effects, thunder and, maybe the most important and yet useless functionality, a foghorn (press Space!).

netlify link is the original compo link
itch.io link is the slightly updated version

Making something simple is surprisingly ...not easy! I wanted to keep the game very simple to play, but to keep it enjoyable I had to pay attention to details. Here are a few hidden things from "A boat in the Storm": - Sound is everywhere, from start button to helm spinning the audio is a key part of this short experience, especially with such minimal design. - Talking about audio each wave can be anticipated by hearing a wood creaking in its direction (play with stereo!) - Difficulty is increasing continuously but keep a part of randomness so any run will be different. - While being hard the difficulty is capped by keeping a minimal interval and having a maximum amplitudes between waves so you should get a few ranks before sinking.
