Going mobile

I had added support in the main release, but forgot one trigger/ line of code that didn't enable it. Here's a link, together with some minor fixes to play on mobile :m:

Forest Ninja Wizard Ghost - Play through video

Game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/forest-ninja-wizard-ghost

Video of the game in action. The idea was you start by seeing nothing, then eventually the map/world is revealed.

Youtubes - Video!

It failed horribly last time with 5 fps when uploaded from OBS. Here's a better attempt.

Art was Photoshop / Sounds/Music FL Studio.

A well timed 403!

I uploaded an updated post-dare version with some bug-fixes , and now my website is b0rked.

Anyone know what I might have done to totally muller it ?

Below is what it should look like, vs what it does...

For the first time , I actually have something (reasonably / comparativetly ) finished too. :O

Post-Dare updates

Small update - I've added on some random Pirate hats and cutlasses.

Now there's a random chance one of the glowing eyes will be wielding a sword, which will then knock away your mushroom gains , and turn the lights out again.

TBC - Wizard Staff / Ninja Bo , Ninja Smoke , More Pirate stuff , Damage / Attack

Mobile / Webapp for HTML games

If you've not tried this already, it's cool for sharing IRL .

If you have an html5 deployment, and if you can self host, you can great a small manifest.json file so when the game page is loaded on a mobile browser, it'll offer to add to home screen/ apps tray.

I've been trying to do this the past few years, to make games accessible on the move with dual controls. If you didn't this time, maybe give it a whirl in April.

Here are my last few Compo entries- this works on Apple phones too I think.

Procedural trees - post-dare dev

Since I was never happy with the ways the trees worked in the original, I thought I'd have a go at procedural / random generation of tree shapes.

Very trial and error. Anyone else done something similar? Did you use curves / smooth falloff, or just randomising?

I've yet to figure how to fill the gaps / recreate a similar style to the fixed trees. On the plus side, the collision will be consistent - so each 'chunk' of leaves will be a platform for some Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style battles.

Progress on post-dare

ProcTreeemtest/em02.jpg

Procedural ( sort of ) trees progress!

Random trees!

Now the Ninja-Wizard can fight the Robot-Pirate cats through randomly generated trees each time!

Procedural sprite trees - Wizarding Ninja's post-dare updating

Progress, in a way.

Play the LD45 compo game here

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/forest-ninja-wizard-ghost

This isn't pretty, I'd like to remake the game in unity so I could make all the trees as softbody physics ( and in theory, get a lot better performance on stuff like the lighting )

New tree in level, with random branch creation /size .

Web Game browsers - for the 5 days remaining!

Thanks to @tsjost for his super in-depth version !

Allows you to pick a random one, or search by type etc. Loads of options.

Forest Wizard Ninja Ghost 3d

Since performance is somewhat spotty in Construct 2 , I though I'd do it in the Unity Engine.

ningja_3d.jpg

Okay, so, it's boxes right now.

To learn are -

Shaders / Jump-through platforms, Animation

I have working Sound / Platforming, and a rudimentary lighting scale / effect.

Last 3 Hours.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to play.

I managed to play through around 70-80 of the submissions, and there were some serious contenders in the compo side. It's amazing to see what a single person can create in two days.

My favourites were / most impressive ( that still stick in my mind! ) were :

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/there-was-something-here - This one is a slow burn but worth sticking with until the end!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/unlock-everything - This was pretty huge for a Compo game, loved the music / style and the general attention to detail!

Themes of things

A few repeats and some very similar themes to past ones ( Shapeshift / Take only One / Start with Nothing )

Theme_Voting.png

So the theme is going to be one of these?

I'm sad magnetism didn't make it into the final round, that could have made for some interesting mechanics, though I guess, after the first 1000 games it might get a little repetitive.

Am hoping for 'Connections' or 'Side effects' , as both could have some interesting scope, like in a platformer where pressing a button to open a door does something else ( makes spikes appear somewhere else etc.)

Untitled realistic night camping sim v1

I gotta find a faster way to render video. This was the brainstorming from 2h ago. Going to catch some z's now.

I have a working fire simulation.
