campfire

light the campfire and keep it burning for as long as you can!

  • keep the fire going to add to your score; the more enemies there are on your screen the more points you will get

    * your score will decrease when the campfire is not burning

  • walk with the arrow keys

  • extra jump with [z] + arrow keys

you can find the entry here

campfire fun facts

when starting on this, the player character was originally designed to be much stronger looking

I went for a more similar look to the other characters, because it was more easier to have them hold the torch in a similar way.

a lot can happen during office hours

you must have dozed off; but now you are awake just two hours before closing time!

in this loop of a job:

  • be prepared to support your customers or just tell them to leave
  • find a broom and clean the floor (nobody likes a dirty floor!)
  • call the guards on dangerous persons (there is ONE phone in the corner)
  • find all four(?) possible endings and have fun playing!

  • walk with arrows

  • dance and acknowledge with z
  • things will happen when you bump into stuff or people

The case of the door in the woods

LD 48 Jam √

The game

Play it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-case-of-the-door-in-the-woods

You find yourself surounded with trees.
You came to these woods with only one goal:
Find the mysterious door. No matter what.
You need to know what is behind it.

Development

This is my first time entering with a game made in Unity. It was a lot of fun to make and I have learned a lot.

Next to Unity, I used FMOD for the first time in combination with the ink scripting language which was also something I had not used before.

Unity

Having used pico-8 in the previous two game jams, this was big difference for me developing this game. Overal it was a great experience using Unity. I like the mindset in thinking in components.

I did spend way too much time trying to make the game work in Safari. For some reason audio just does not work in this browser, making the game unplayable. Please use Chrome and headphones when you want to play the game. If someone knows how to fix this, please let me know!

FMOD

FMOD is an incredible powerful audio middleware that is an absolute delight to use: using FMOD's global parameters I could control all the events and animations in the game according to the music and vice versa.

Check out my main event: fmodstudio.png

Ink

This is a, hopefully spoiler free, screenshot of the first few paragraphs written in ink. ink.png

Binding variables and setting up external functions was super easy to do and setup in Unity: It made focusing on writing, which I find not particular easy, a fun and smooth experience.

Animation

I had way too much fun using Procreate to draw the small animations frames.

Music

All the music and sound effect were made in Logic.

In tribute to the theme 'deeper and deeper', I tried to make the global theme of the music a reversed shepherd tone. Can you hear it go deeper and deeper as your brain tricks you?

Final words

Sadly, as it is with game jams, I did not have enough time to make this game as epic and deep as I wanted. So please enjoy some assets that I made but were not all used in the game.

Timelapse first asset and clip of very early build

The idea of The case of the door in the woods started with me drawing the following background art. FA2EEE93-1290-4278-BAF6-91D377318CC7.gif

Here is a short clip I found from a very early build original just to test the webgl build: 4CC2982F-A230-4BAD-B624-5519C0EBC6BB.gif

I think the final build improved a lot from that time. Curious? Please see for yourself: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-case-of-the-door-in-the-woods

【night trade】and using Godot

Making 【night trade】 was quite the journey but I had great fun in doing so!

Tools used: * Logic and my guitar for music * Aseprite for art and animations * Godot for the actual gamedev

First time using Godot was interesting and exciting.

Everything just worked! And it runs and exports blazingly fast.

What an absolute delight working with it!

Pro tip: do not use de default setting of Filter when importing pixel art in Godot! filter! copy.png

In Godot I had the whole game setup like this: overview making it easy for me to transition from screen to screen by using signals and a basic animation player while keeping a good overview of it all.

I will recommend Godot to anyone from now on!

How to play

tutorial2.png

Welcome to Låndskein. Here the forces of Nåture 🌳 will try to fend off Indûstry 🏭 in a battle that will end when the field is full.

Take turns against your AI opponent as you drag and drop tiles from your hand to the field.

The winner is the player with the most influenced tiles at the end.

Tiles are placed as neutral, but every 10 seconds influence spreads from trees (nature) and Factories (industry) to connected tiles.

Tiles can only be put on the field connecting to other tiles. Remember to rotate your tiles to have a better chance of connecting the tiles. It will take 10 seconds to grow influence for both sides and you will receive a new tile in your hand.

Influence will grow to adjacent tiles if the way is not blocked.

  • Nature (🟩) influence can be blocked by roads and walls.

  • Industry (◻️) influence can be blocked by rivers and forests.

  • Neutral (🟫) tiles can only be influenced once and either will turn into nature or industry!

This will only work if you correctly block them: just placing them all vulnerable will not protect your influence!

If your hand is full (max 8 tiles) your opponent will place a Toxic oil tile (⬛️) every 10 seconds. Hurry and put a tile from your hand on the Toxic tile to sacrifice both tiles. Toxic will grow every 10 seconds and will consume every nature tile adjacent if not properly blocked or sacrificed before the timer is done. Toxic will count as Industry so make sure you either block or sacrifice swiftly!

Hint: Play your full hand on the field to get 4 new tiles immediately!

When the field is full, counting of total influence will commence and the game will be over.

For the sake of Låndskein, do not let industry win!

Good luck and thank you for playing!
