LD 38

Hello World

Looking forward to participating in LD#38 (V) (,;;,) (V)

Before Every Ludum I set out some personal goals, things that I usually don’t get the change to experiment with and learn from in my daily work. This year I will be focusing on music and sound. Hopefully everything goes well and I learn a lot.

As of writing this we have 2 Hour till event starts. Currently getting snacks, updating software and putting on some Netflix.

Good Luck everyone may the code be with you

Loud NOISES!

Hello World!

Voting has started and I am quickly going through as many games as a can before work. But I wanted to interrupted my fun to write this. Last night I finally got around implementing Music and sounds to my Post-Compo Version. Im not a musician but I gave it a go and I think the over all feel is of a very chill and relaxing atmosphere. Let me know how I did with the music. Also this morning I got a web version up and running for the Post-comp version.

The game still has its problems and so far every post-compo update has really been just a bunch of duct tape and paint. If were to truly fix the game I think I would have to start from scratch but this LD game has been great as a prove of concept.

I hope to play more games. Overall I am really impressed by the quality and fun of some of the games!

Tutorial Video

Sometimes a video is required.

Unfortunately when you are running out energy and time the tutorial is neglected. The End result is not as polished as you would like it to be. Explaining the depth and basics are hard enough but when people are having to go through 5 billion game to judge spending 15 mins to understand the game isn't fair. So back to Sometimes a video is required.

https://youtu.be/0fvr4FKojTg

Ive condensed the basics into a short video. The first half is explanations the second is game play. Let me know if it has helped you to understand and play the game.

Question

I was wondering if updating the tutorial of a Compo entry is breaking rules? I fear people with the current tutorial wont grasp the concepts and wont play the main game. Adding a couple of popup windows explaining some concepts would solve alot of the issues with it.

Sometimes Life gives you lemons and other times Ludum gives us an Overly ambitious Project to do in just 48h. This game was by far the biggest in term of scope that i've ever attempted to make in Ludum. In fact there were a lot of first for me, First time trying my hand a procedural generation, first time making a bullet hell , first time working with water color aesthetic, first time not eating for 37h. I made alot of mistakes along the way but I think I grew as game designer, programmer.

This is What I achieved https://youtu.be/lvEbJduNS9s

I would consider this project a half success in many ways, sure I have a game but its not complete. No Music, No Sounds, Not camera shake when taking damage, No Enemy Sprites, No button FeedBack, No more complex generation, no to a lot of things I know I am capable of executing if I had the time.

What I did achieve is beautiful and chaotic only a game made in 48h could be. I am poise to say this project was all about pushing myself to my limit and not holding back any punches. I would have loved to fully realized my vision for this game and push further then that but I only got 50% there.

I cant wait for the LD 42, where I hope to achieve greater things. Consider playing my game and giving me Feedback https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/number-one-take-out

What Excites you about making games?

S_Mango Dance.gif

Hello world!!! So i've contemplating this question for a while, figured why not ask the LD Community. For me what excites in game development is exploring new ideas. Whether it is code or art or music, everything is a learning opportunity. I have deep enthusiasm to learn and therefore it provides me with the most enjoyment. I would love to hear what makes you excited about making a game?

Name Your Captain

Hey everyone, I was a bit late on my rating for this LD very busy week. therefore it seems I missed out on the early influx of voters. If anyone is looking for a game to rate consider Playing mine, I would really appreciate it. leave on comment if you do and ill do my best to rate yours as well.

Hacking 1.gif

Anyway my game has a FTL inspired game loop. Your job is to micro manage your systems by moving your Crew around. You have three main Systems, Cloning (More Crew), Hacking (Stunning Enemies) Shield Repairs(Emergency repairs). With an additional North, South and East facing guns.

you will gain upgrades throughout the journey but you will force to Sell off you crew to obtain the upgrades.

The game can be a bit overwhelming at times, it doesn't hand hold you. you might need to play it an additional 1 or 2 times to reach and beat the final wave.

Boogie your way through the 70's

When I started this LD I knew from the start I wanted to to make something Joyful, help people forget the troubles, I wanted to make a Funky entry into LD. Im happy to say I think I succeeded. I even made a mixtape for all of you to enjoy while reliving the 70's classics.
