Progress so far!

It’s my first Ludum Dare ever, and I’m really enjoying it so far. My progress over the last few hours has been trivial, so I’m going to get some sleep and resume tomorrow.

I need to get some better system to rapidly create levels. I feel that with time constraints such as this investing the time to create better tools early could save significant time later.

I’m in!(And Progress!)

I’m in! I’ll be using XNA with C# through Visual Studio, Paint.Net, and whatever free audio program I can find if I get that far.

Here’s what I have so far:

End of the first Day

Sleep time! But first, here’s what I have done so far:

Character Movement

Basic Character Attacking

The ability to import low-res images as levels

Some lousy art

I appear to be making a game about a monster in a dungeon who has to fight off heroes.

Here’s a screenshot!:

Alright, I’m in!

Four hours in, and I’m finally deciding to join. It only took me 4 hours to think of an idea. I’m doing something multiplayer, and as such it may reach a smaller audience, but that’s ok. I decided to not do a Siamese twin game (You only get one body), but that would have been great. Somebody else should steal that idea.

I’m using:

Unity 2D

Paint.net?

Audacity?

Other stuff?

Time for jam. (or maybe sleep?)

Getting sleepy..

Sorry Friend

Sorry Friend

I may be polishing a bit too much before the gameplay itself is too refined, but I really want to make killing someone feel good (that sounds bad).

It’s a competitive multiplayer game. You only get one shot and then the other player gets a shot. I’m trying to think of some weird single player mode so that people without a spare friend can try it out too, but I’m not sure that will get in in time.

You only get one shot! (or something like that)

Less than 24 hours left and I’m a bit behind the curve. I’m making a one on one multiplayer game. I know less people will be able to try it out, but I love local multiplayer and couldn’t resist!

I’m thinking of making music by whistling. (Is that a good idea?)

As long as the levels don’t blow out, whistling would sound great 😀

Calling it a night

backstab

The player who doesn’t have a bullet gets a knife. Obviously they’re at a bit of a disadvantage, but if they can outsmart the other player maybe they can get close enough to knife them. The gun swaps to the knife player when the gun player fires their gun. I’m wondering if a successful knife should transfer the gun as well to make the victory even more sweet?

Watching this gif over and over is making me realize the knife hits at the wrong end of the animation. Oh well, something to fix tomorrow!

Finished! MAKE IT COUNT (but more time would have been nice)

lose2 losegreen win

I finished! (barely) It’s the first Ludum Dare I’ve finished, and actually the first game I’ve uploaded to the internet publicly.

MAKE IT COUNT is a game about precision and rapid playthroughs. You get one bullet per gun, and you have to get a new gun from an enemy before you can fire again.

Initially the game was designed with multiplayer in mind, and then in the last 4 hours I decided to add in a single-player mode. It came down to the wire, and unfortunately the level design suffered as a result. Despite it being incredibly easy to make levels there’s only 4-ish levels, with one being the multiplayer arena. I made all of the levels in the last 20 minutes, and it was a mad rush to just get it to work. As a result the levels are all pretty bad, but there’s still some semblance of fun to be had still!

If you have a spare friend check out the level that looks like an arena and play some deathmatch! When one player fires their gun the other player gets a gun. It’s designed to create a hectic back and forth feel.
