First time

Hi there !

I’m in for my first time.  I will be working in Javascript with HTML5’s Canvas. Not sure which JS library i’ll be using as I don’t know what I will do.

I’m in the games industry, working as Javascript developer for facebook apps, but I’ve never made an entire game myself, so I just hope I’ll be able to finish something in time.

There will not be any sound effect or music, nor good graphisms as it is not really my domain. Might just use gimp to do basic stuffs.

Language: JavaScipt/HTML5
Graphics: GIMP
Audio: none
Text Editor: gEdit
Version control: SVN
Cat: Echo >^.^<
Others: Lots of coffee

Good luck everyone :)

LD25

We’re in :)

Hello all !

Just the typical post to say we’re in.

Just two of us, my girlfriend, GameDesigner, and myself, front end developer, each in a game company.

We will try to do a HTML/JS Canvas game, based on CraftyJS library.
We’ll use Gimp for graphisms.

We already have some ideas for the themes and we really hope we gonna make something cool in time.

Good luck everybody. :)

End of Day one

Hello everyone :)

That’s been a day, and we’re getting on the right way so far.

Here’s a demo of our game : http://kingsavate.fr/ld25/branches/m2/
There is only the first part of the gameplay, more is coming tomorrow.

For now, my eyes can’t see anymore, and i’m making loads of mistake I could avoid with some more rest. I was about to integrate the sprites for the characters nut i’ll do it tomorrow.

Anyway good night all, see you !

End of Day Two

What are you gonna do to this cat ?

Milestone 3 reached !! Yyayyy \o/

We’re a bit surprised to have manage to reach that point.

Some explanations: To interact with an element, building or NPC, press arrow_down, then to select an action in the message box, use the mouse. I know it’s not ideal, but we gonna change that later.

Soon Milestone 4: More actions, more NPC (a goat and a dog are coming soon), a nice begin screen, and a nice end screen telling you what sin you are depending on your actions in game.

Voila voila, we still have 26 hours for that as we are in the Jam. BTW, the team is Alice, who did gameDesign and Artworks, and myself for code.

Corruption Post-Mortem

    What went right

We came up with a theme and gameplay that we loved but it took us a while to sort out what we wanted which meant we lost some time at the beginning. We even started working on an idea we didn’t like so much and the result was we were too demotivated to continue. It is important to really love the idea you are doing to be able to give it your all.
In the end the graphics were much better than we expected to be as neither of us are real artists and the designer managed to learn much through doing this.

    What went wrong

In terms of the final product there is not enough feedback for actions made by the character. Some more animations and a real sense of impact to the world and characters would have been better. Eventually it would be nice to expand the world with more interactions.

    Conclusion

This was a great experience for both of us and we learnt a great deal. The fact that we managed to finish the game was a real achievement. As a first entry we are both quite proud of what we have done.
