How do you get a foot in the door?

Hello my fellow game devs! I have a question for someone more experienced than myself. How do you go about getting your foot in the door of working in the game development field? I would consider myself an intermediate programmer. But how do I even try to go into working in this field??? Do I need to go to college? Do I need to know the right people?? As some one fresh out of high school I would appreciate any help!!

Ready to play some games!!!!

Hey y'all, comment y'all's games and I'll play 'em!

P.S. Please check out my first Ludum Dare game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/fat-jacks-fun-run

A Question of Freelance

Hello all, I have recently been asked to do a freelance gig for a guy who wants to make a simple kid's game. I am confident in my ability to actually make the game, but the problem is I have never done a job like this before. So, I am once again reaching out to my LD fam to ask for advice on what to charge the guy? Do y'all think I should charge by the hour or one lump sum up front? If by hour, what's a fair price? And for those pros out there who have done freelance work before, do you have any extra advice for me? Like maybe things to put in the contract to maintain rights to my code or something?

Anyway thank you all! -kippllo

VoxelCode is Up and Running!!!

VoxelCode is a script-based voxel editor. It is written in pure javascript!

https://youtu.be/b_nEmBEuhWw

Over the past 6 months I really wanted to code a 3D modeling program of my own. VoxelCode maybe not exactly what I set out to do, but I have had lots of fun developing it and I am very happy with how it turned out! Please give it a try and let me know how you like it! I think it will work great for making art assets for Ludum Dare! I'm hoping y'all will use this in future game jams! I know I will!

BTW VoxelCode is open source and available on GitHub: https://github.com/kippllo/VoxelCode

If you just want to try it and not dive into the source code here is a link to the official website running the app: https://kippllo.github.io/VoxelCode/

I'd love to see what you make with it, so please if you do use it let me know @ VoxelCode@gmail.com

I'm in! (With a new twist)

Hello everyone! I'm in once again for my fourth LD! I can't wait! This time is a little different for two reasons: 1. I'll be using my very own voxel modeling program for graphics! I made Voxelcode(https://github.com/kippllo/VoxelCode), a code based voxel editor, this year and I am very happy with the results! Please give it a try and let me know what you think! 2. I am focusing on making the game in a way that it could run as a mobile app, with the hopes of actually releasing an updated version on the App Store later!

Thank you all for making LD a place to dream and grow! I can't wait to see what everyone makes!!

BLOCKDROP FINISHED!!

BlockDrop is a fun mobile-style physics clicker gamer where you HAVE to DESTROY blocks before you run out of space! 1.gif

There are a few different modes, so please try them all! 4.gif https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/blockdrop-1

I'm in, and with a little more experience this time!

I'm back for LD once again!

Tools I'll be using: - Unity (Game Engine) - VoxelCode (Voxel Editor/Modeling) Made this one myself - Blender (Animations) - Gimp (Sprite and photo work) - Audacity (Sound design) - GIF Brewery 3 (GIFs) - GarageBand (Music, if I have the time  )

I'd also like to announce that I recently published my first app on the App Store! This game was not made for LD, but I took some parts of one of my LD games and modded it quite a bit to make this one! I'd be thrilled if you would check it out and let me know what you think!

Math Drop (Currently not available for Android), presents a fun way for students to build addition, multiplication, and exponent skills in math. It aims to give players multiple ways to solve problems, the same way that any math problem can be solved multiple ways. Please try it out and let me know what you think!
