LD27

Not long to go – I’m In

So this is the first time doing the main LD48 and I have to say that I’m pretty excited to be doing it. When it actually starts I’ll be in my bed but I’ll be starting as soon as I wake up.

My tools will include Unity, FLStudio, Inkscape and maybe Photoshop. And I may even stream the development as well.

Grav Nav: First update.

Taking a break from coding so I can put out my first update and progress report on my LD27 Compo game.

The game itself is called “Grav Nav” which is short for “Gravitational Navigation”, the whole idea of it is you get 10 Seconds to initial place  a few of your Gravity Capsules setting them up to change the direction of the gravity. After 1o seconds has passed the ball drops and using the gravity capsules you need to direct the ball to the end. If you do this within 10 seconds you get points but if you take more than 10 seconds you lose 1 point for every second you take.

So far I have the graphics sorted along with the idea of the game.

More updates to come tonight.

First Day Complete – Playthrough

Well it’s been very productive for me today. I’ve probably got more done today than I have over the past month with regards to game development.

So far I’ve really enjoyed working on my current game with the theme of “10 Seconds” as I’ve learnt alot more about working in Unity and with C# in general. I currently have three levels completed and hoping to have a total of between 10 and 15 for the LD version of “Grav Nav” (Awesome Title Right!?).

I’ll also be working on some SFX and a Soundtrack as well tomorrow as I’ll be that much  more awake.

In the meant time clicking here will guide you to my playthrough on YT

Day 2 – Lunchtime update

It’s been very streamlined so far today, I’ve got another 4 levels designed, built and tested. I’m currently doing level 9 and then onto Level 10.

Once the levels have been completed it’ll be time for Sound Development which I hope will take about 5 to 7 hours giving me a few hours to really test the game and make sure that it’s more or less bug free (Unlikely though…)

Well back to doing those levels.

GravNav – Completed!

Well that’s it, my LD27 game is comeplete…

I have to say that it’s been really fun and I’m looking forward to playing everyone elses games over the next 3 Weeks.

October Challenge – I’m In.

For the October challenge I’m going to be working on my most recent project entitled Nephollow.

The project itself is done using the PSM (Playstation Mobile) SDK, in C# which I’m hoping to have completed by the 23rd of October, maybe even before that.
If all goes well with the PSM version of it I’m thinking of porting it to put on the Windows 8 Store and maybe have it ported to android…

If you want updates on the project itself through out the month, follow my twitter @moongateuk.

Also good luck to everyone doing this. :)

TIL (The Infinite Line) Complete

What can I say, it’s been a bit of a bumpy ride making this game.

First things first this is the final game http://www.kongregate.com/games/lparkermg/til-the-infinite-line
And this is the Webpage for it http://til.moon-gate.co.uk/

After finding out about the October challenge I already had an Idea on what I was going to remake my original LD27 game called Grav Nav. Which would have worked but it was pretty difficult to replicate how it worked and I changed focus half way through.I decided to look into maze and dungeon generation to see if I could get any ideas from that but nothing that could be done in the time I had left…

So I looked around at my stalled projects and found one I had called ST W (SingleTrack World) where each stage was generated to a certain length using blocks and decided to Incorperate that.

Inititally the development of TIL was pretty easy to a certain extent with the fact that most coding errors where human error. But the hardest part was the level generation itself when I introduced the difficulties, due to TIL originally being slated for Windows 8 I was pretty worried about the Frame Rate which TIL was running at.

Last night though was really pretty tight. As my self imposed deadline for having TIL up and out there was to be for the 21/10/2013 and that included bits such as testing, building etc. Which I found out that for some reason there were a few errors in building the code for TIL under Window 8. Each time I tried there were errors and I really didn’t have the time to fix them, so I made the last minute decision to switch to building for web. (Which actually turned out better than expected…)

Any way enough from me Have a Play on TIL and have fun. I’m off for a lovely holiday in Scotland.

2nd LudumDare – Under 30 days left

With the release of Unity 4.3 (With 2D Tools) things are looking good for what I aim to do in LD28. I’m going to do a 2D game and go by the selected theme and maybe even continue the development or it into the new year (Depending on how far I get).

As you’ll see on my latest blogpost over at moon-gate.co.uk I have a kind of schedule that I’m going to go by in releasing my games.

I’m hoping that for the theme this time round we get something as interesting as “10 Seconds” because that produced some really wonderful games.

I’m in for my Second LD

I’ll be back again for my second LD.

What I’ll be using:

  • Coding and Engine – Unity3D.
  • Graphics – Photoshop and Inkscape.
  • Audio and Music – FL Studio.

Aim’s:

  • Being just as Inventive as my previous LD Game.
  • Work more on the 2D aspect of gaming (Though that will depend on the theme I get.)
  • Get more time to Test the game itself.
  • Hope for an Awesome theme

From this Ludum Dare I’m hoping to working balancing the different areas of the Game Development process out so I can get a functionally strong game with good graphics and audio, rather than last time where I spent loads of time planning and only on the last part of the Saturday did I have a somewhat playable game.

So hopefully I should have a better game than I previously did.

Good luck everyone.

LD28 – Update 1

So after a slow start with not many feasible ideas coming forward, I finally  got one from a stalled project of mine. With only 1 go at the level itself  and also only 1 level (Yes, 1 level.) I think this will be a pretty difficult game to finish (For the player that is.)

Finished:

  • Movement Script.
  • Plans.

Planned:

  • One large level.
  • Items that limit the player in some way.
  • More to come…

Well that’s my lunchtime blog finished so I’m now going back to making the game.

2nd Update today – YouOnlyGetOne

Rooting for another good theme – I’m In

Hopefully there should be another good theme this time round, hopefully inspiring to make something really different.

This time round I’ll be also making this game a full one after the compo, It’ll most likely be an android game…

Weapons of Choice:

  • Engine: Unity3D Free.
  • Language: C#.
  • Coding IDE: MonoDevelop.
  • Graphics and Modeling: Blender, Photoshop CS6, Inkscape, AutoTileGen.
  • Audio: FL Studio 11, NI Massive, Bfxr.

This will be my 3rd LD on the trot. so I’m pretty happy that I can keep on with these.

Also Good Luck everyone!

LD29 – Progress Thus Far

So after learning my lessons over the past two Ludum Dares, I actually went in to this with a proper plan and work flow. Which so far has helped a lot with getting bits sorted and knowing where I’m up to.

Most of today was spent getting the core mechanics working, fleshing out the story and making a start on the final graphics.

Tomorrows work will mainly be working on the final graphics, implementation of the designed levels and getting the music completed. I might even do some artwork for it as well if I get the time.

Well thats me out for the night now, Have fun everyone.

4th Time – I’m In!

This will be my forth time entering Ludum Dare and the first time that I’ll be live streaming the entire time.

Weapons of Choice:

Game Engine – Unity3d.

Graphics – Photoshop, GIMP and Inkscape.

Music and SFX – FLStudio and FakeMusicGenerator.com.

Promgramming Language – C#.

So what I’m hoping for is a theme that will push my limits.

I’m in – My forth LudumDare Compo

So as the title says I’m in for my fourth LudumDare, I’m hoping that being away from game development for a little while will have helped with not making a mountain out of a mole hill for the 48 hour compo.

So let’s hope this one goes further than any of my other games.

The following are my weapons of choice:

Engine – Unity3d.

Graphics – Photoshop and Maybe Inkscape.

Programming Language – C#.

Audio – Bfxr, Fakemusicgenerator and FL Studio.

I will make my descision on what style I do when the themes go through. I’m still debating on the visual style at the moment and if it will be 2d or 3D.

I’ll try to make a timelapse or live stream the entire event.

More info can be found on my twitter feed @moongateuk and on my website http://www.moongate-uk.co.uk/
