Prototyping the initial idea

So I got an initial idea in mind. It revolves around being the mastermind behind a world organization and sending henchmen to do your bidding. The point of the game is to commit enough evil around the world to reach a certain fear threshold before Interpol cracks down on you.

I’m currently in the midst of prototyping the core mechanics of observing a globe and sending henchmen on a variety of tasks. Hope to have something playable within 4 hours.

First Prototype

K so I got a first playable. The game is fast just like I wanted it. The current major problem is the lack of player feedback. The game is fast pace resource management and the player is gonna be hardly aware of when those values update. Time to add loads of visual timers and audio queues.

Prototyped rework

I reworked a good portion of how I display and communicate information to the player. The Player now receives a good amount of feedback from the actions he takes.

I plan on spending time on paper to better polish the mechanics of my game. When it comes to resource management, I want to ensure two things are occurring in my game:

1 – players have only meaningful choices to choose from.

2 – elements of risk vs reward feel as though they are.

At the moment I feel as those are the two biggest issues in my game. I’ll be spending the next hour or two away from the code to think this threw.

As of now I feel good though. I’m further along then I expected and haven’t come into any major road blocks. The mind is willing to continue through the night, but the body is tired :(

I’m getting vertigo just looking at code. Is that normal?

Back at It

Got 6 hours of sleep. Now I’m back at it. Gonna work on a Shader to get the visual effects I want. I’m also gonna work on the games difficulty math like I said I would in my last post. Ill give myself a few hours for this. Hopefully no more then 3.

Update 1 = spent 30 minutes and solved all my math and mechanics. I’m more confident with the gameplay now.

Update 2 = Spent an hour doing visual tweaks. The game is slowly coming together. Time to work on the players HUD to drive home notification and start doing audio.

Haven’t Updated in a bit

I’ve worked primarely on the presentation since I last posted. I trouble shooted several HUD ideas, worked on my information communication, even added an orbiting moon around earth. I settled on a simplistic style and offset framing for my game.

I’m currently working on gathering sfxs for the game and eventually a track. I also need to work on a final Background and endgame states such as winning or losing. After that its the home stretch with a front end and bam!

Final stretch

I haven’t posted in a while. I’m at Beta. Trying to find bugs and add more polish where I see is necessary. Since I last posted I got front end, endgame and audio fully in. I’m looking to spend my polish time working on a intro phase akin to the start of a racing game.

in the meantime have some screenshots4 5 6

I need a shower…

Slow pace

I’ve come to halt on development. My game is done but can always use more polish. The trick is spending time to think about what I can polish in the last 3 hours. I spent the last few hours since I last posted getting some lunch, doing laundry and worked on some audio queues for the game ending.

I don’t know what I’m gonna do with my last few hours.
