Ludum Dare 55

Reflecting on our first jam

This was the very first game jam for everyone on our team, and it was undeniably a really fun experience! We went in with no idea if we would actually finish and submit a game. We all have strong backgrounds in programming, but our experience with game engines is limited. We chose to develop with Godot, which required some tutorials along the way but ultimately provided a fairly smooth development process.

I don't think anyone on our team anticipated the challenges that came before the actual programming of the game. We wanted an idea that felt original yet not too hard to implement. We also didn't want to start making a game only to realize it was no fun halfway through developing it. Coming up with an idea proved to take quite a while, but in the end, we landed on a fun concept. Though at that point, we did have less than 2 days to start developing...

With the time we had, our team did a really good job managing all of the tasks at hand to get the game going. We found using a Trello board to be very helpful in dividing up responsibilities and motivating us to check off goals. It was a stressful final stretch, but we are all so proud to have submitted a game that's pretty fun. We are really excited for others to play our game and leave feedback. We plan to work more on the game beyond this jam, so stay tuned for future updates!

We've been having a blast playing other people's submissions. Thanks to everyone involved with LD55 for providing a really fun game jam experience!
