I'm in - with crystal and SFML

Excited to join another game jam! Really pumped to use crystal again since I found a combo (CrSFML) that is working on Windows. If our idea is 3D, I'll go with Godot, but I'd like to give crystal + SFML a try!

Tools me and my roommate will be using:

For those that don't know, Crystal is a programming language based on, and very similar to Ruby, except it compiles, similar to C. So it's much faster, and hence I thought good to try for game development. I love Ruby syntax for web development, so eager to apply that to game development. I've also built a small wrapper library around CrSFML (here) that will help me be more OOP than the SFML C-like patterns.

Cheers everyone, have fun!

getting somewhere, 10 seconds at a time

pretty happy with what me and my roommate have so far, even though it's not much

ship, phaser pulse (purple) every 10 secs to wipe out enemies

collision detection with the pulse arc, circle collisions for enemies and lasers

definitely needs a lot of polishing, enemy/player damage, level design, and enemy AI movements

gotta get to it!

I'm In x3

I'm in, along with my roommate per usual, but we've recruited his friend this time around. I'll be coding, roommate will be 3D modeling and textures and probably help coding too. And new friend will help with specifically audio, music and sound FX which will be a welcome addition!

We'll most likely be doing something 3D with Godot 4. But if I'm feeling really spicy, 2D in crystal / SFML using crsfml bindings and more high-level wrapper / collection of game objs I created: game_sf, like used in a previous LD51 submission phase. But probably gonna stick with Godot 4, since roommate and friend are more familiar with that. And down with Unity, up with Godot :)

most likely: - Godot 4, or crystal SFML - Blender for 3D modeling - Aseprite for any textures or sprites etc - Audacity (for me if I do sounds) unsure what new guy will use, he's a professional music contractor, so something dope

I'm In! Crystal + SFML

I'm in for LD56! Usually our team (me and my roommate) do a game in Godot engine, but this time we're going with a compiled language I love: crystal!

Crystal (or crystal-lang is easier to search) is similar to Ruby but compiled so potentially better suited for game development. We're using a binding to C++ library SFML (Simple Fast Media Framework) to do the window, inputs, graphics and audio. The direct binding is crsfml and I've made a wrapper library called gamesf and template starter gamesf_template so we can have basics like changing scenes, sprite animations, animated/typed message boxes, better joystick/keyboard/mouse helpers etc. I've been adding to it occasionally as I've been doing hobby game dev, and on some previous LD jams too, so excited to continue using it. If anyone is curious about using crystal or the above libraries, please feel free to reach out!

Since SFML is geared towards 2D (it can do 3D with raw GL code too I think) we'll shoot for a 2D game.

Tools we'll use: - crystal - compiled language with ruby-like syntax - SFML (Simple Fast Media Framework) - C++ graphics and audio framework - game_sf - wrapper for SFML bindings for more object-oriented scenes, helpers - Aseprite - 2D pixel editor - Inkscape - vector graphics editor - Audacity - sound editor

Cheers to everyone participating, have fun this weekend!

ready!!!

im ready, got all my snacks n drinks. did some practice in Godot. this time around my new friend Claude AI is helping out, they were super helpful in practice so things are looking good. excited for the jam to start!!

Traffic Signals & Sirens

Check out our game, Traffic - Signals & Sirens

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/59/traffic

Control traffic signals to get ambulances and police cars to the hospital or police station. Clear any car wrecks to avoid bottlenecks. Manage the chaos and have ambulances and police arrive on time, or get an X. 3 Xs on a vehicle type and it's game over!

We just need 5 more reviews to make it past 20! I'd be happy to review your games too, throw them in this thread!
