Up to date

This is the first post but we actually started on saturday, SO I’m going to start updating the artsy part from now on.

This is actually my first LudumDare, i’ve heard about it before but never had the chance to participate. This one I’m on a team with my other two friends (Rudá & Rachel). Those two and me, Matheus (the brazilian art&sound guy of the team).

We were out of ideas but them BAM we got a nice little idea with Robin and his theft adventures to save the little penguins and wales from all the spilled oil. A (suited) guy comes to him asking for help, he needs the money the save the little animals i’ve just mentioned, and Robin comes to save the day! Steal as many bars of gold as possible as fast as you can (is this even correct?).
(/spoiler) the guy is lying to you (/spoiler)

the photo is inverted and overexposed but life’s too short to deal with those little things, oh well…

First look on the game’s graphics

After lots of laughing and laughing we came up with consistent ideas for the base concept we had, then I did a very quick pixel-sketch to see with my other mates how the game was actually going to look like. This was based on the idea that he must sneak into castles to steal their treasures.

Hey, he’s green, uses a bow and steal stuff(all that with lovely pixels), what is not to love?

Scenario/assets!

I did some of the assets that we’re gonna be using, as you can see the overall look of the background got more details on it.

Since we decided to work with 800×600 (so most of the computers won’t have a problem running it) I did the assets and overall with this size, so I can see how much space each item is taking… this way the level design for the other screens (yet to be made) will be easier, just dragging and dropping.

Char/animation!

Now comes one of the best parts, the chars design. For now i have just Robin and his walking and shooting animation, it didn’t change much from the first scratch, I really liked this particular style. His walking animation is so funny… maybe I’m looking at it too much.

Admit it…

It is funny, I’m not crazy… Look how Robin goes, always focused on the gold.

*update*

The soldier walking.

Dialog!(part of it)

Here’s part of how the “boss fight” is going to be… to take all his treasures you must pass his…little test. (yes, we love monty python, who doesn’t?)

Robin knows it

Hay, before the update i’d like to say i’m posting all this stuff when time permits it (and my memory as well).

This is the beginning dialog, where Mr. John, the businessman comes to you to ask your help, Robin doesn’t have time to second guess anything, their creators are in the middle of the LudumDare.

So close…

We failed, for a couple of minutes but we failed…

I’d say that’s all folks, but it isn’t, we may not be on the ludumdare competition after all but we got a nice little prototype to work on! :)

And more important was all the experience we got from this and what we end up in hands, and of course, what we’ll choose to do with it. My other two Sahara Penguins (our collective) fellows are also very happy with what we came up with, and it’s 99% of chances that we’ll polish the game.(the other 1% are the mayans)

What I have to say is: this wasn’t bad at all, for a first ludumdare I enjoyed it very much, lots of pixels to paint, platforms to create, lots of robins… but I noticed in the end I got the hang of pixel art (something that wasn’t my style) and actually came up with a style that I’m gonna use more often from now on! I also did some sweet music for the game, I didn’t made any update about it but it was a good practice. It was really good to rock this project and see what it can give us, you should be expecting a nice game from us in the future…
