LD 40

Don't get Snéézed on!

3 months ago, I never wrote a single line of code. Never made any art or sounds assets. Today I finished a small and simple game in 4 hours. Really had a busyweekend and got my phone stolen :(

Never the less, Check out Snèèz! Don't get sneezed on and die by a high fever!

Definitely going to join again for LD41 but will free up my weekend!

LD 41

Flappy Bird + Tetris = Fun Frustration

  • End of Day One and I can conclude that I'm realy not confortable with this theme

After some prototyping I came up with a small tweak to the classic Tetris game: Placing the blocks with a "Flappy Bird" like effect.

To be honest, it is really hard but I think it fits the "incompatible games theme". I think I only managed to clear 3 lines during all of my testplays :D

During the day, I had trouble giving my game some soul or atmosphere, but now I'm pretty satisfied with the looks.

Highly explosive Capsules, with some sort of artificial energy, can be found in the blocks. These are highly reactive and will implode by a 'simple click'.

Tomorrow I will try to implement: - sound - menu system - tweak the 'Flappy Effect' - Camera Shake (if I succeed).

LD41_DayOne.png

I just started learning Blender and tried implementing some 3D models. I think these give some more atmosphere to the game.

I'm still looking for a name for the Game. Anyone any suggestions? My creativity tank has been dried up completely :)

Flappy Bird & Tetris = Difficult (for sure!)

A Fresh Start on Day Two.

As I said in my blogpost yesterday, I still had no name for the small game.

But I've created a little GIF of FlapTris (sounds cool?).

It is a combination of Flappy Bird and Tetris and the Flapping Mechanic is still very difficult! I only managed to complete 3 rows in all of my playtesting

Flappy Bird + Tetris: Improving overal atmosphere

I'm really starting to digging the atmosphere and theme.

I thought a simple "Space Genre" would be no fun but Boy was I wrong! BTW: I'm really getting nauseous by the orbital motion of the Spaceship, so I know the effect kind of works :p

I finished the core mechanics, power-ups and menu system. Now I'm adding small details like the opening scene for Menu System:

An alarm was also added when you lost the game.

(sorry about the mouse inscreen)

Now I have to take a mandatory break and will start working on my sound effects and (maybe a little camera shake).

Finished FLAPTRIS: Flappy Bird + Tetris

Welcome to the extremely difficult game: FLAPTRIS:

Play and Rate the game @ https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/$73876

It's a mash-up between Flappy Bird and Tetris and YES! It is as difficult as you are thinking right now.

  • A dramatic zoom in the intro screen.

Upload_Intro OK.gif

  • Try out the flapping mechanics! I'm quiet happy with the feel of the Flappy Bird Effect.
  • Try to trigger the Capsules for a small helpfull (?) explosion.

Upload_Gameplay OK.gif

  • Just make sure that you don't trigger the alarm!

Some notes to self: - It is extremely difficult to compose music. I kept it simple by using Bosca Ceoil and it's Low Bass Instrument. - Using RigidBody in Unity3D was also not the easiest task. I think I had to redesign the Flapping Mechanic 3x times. - This was surely a hard theme for me. - See you again for LD42 - There is still (1) Game Breaking bug, but if it occurs you can retry from the menu.

My current highscore is 3090. Post your highscore in the comments! Really looking forward to all your topscores :)

Exhausted but finished my Second LD

I'm exhausted but finished my second LD. Worked until 2 AM this evening because I tried tweaking the 'Flappy Bird' Mechanic at 1 AM and this resulted in lots of bug fixes. (There still are)

I slept 3 hours and now I'm at work for another 8 hours to go. I'm sitting here like a zombie :)

Please rate & play FLAPTRIS!:

  • Current Highscore: 13.000 (@caeonosphere)
  • Can you beat it?

Yes it's difficult!

If you got some Spare Time: Try beating the current Highscore in my game

CURRENT HIGHSCORE: 57.560 (@mao)

It's a combination of Flappy Bird & Tetris:

Early build of Flaptris = Flappy Bird + Tetris

Here is a GIF of a very early look at Flaptris. The Flappy effect were still very buggy and unpredictable. LONG LIVE RIGIDBODIES and PHYSICS!

  • Early build on saturday morning

  • Current build, looks much more polished!

I'm thinking about making it a small time-waster for your Android or iPhone

LD 42

Good luck everyone!

LD40 was my first LD and I finished 404th in overall score. I was pretty content with the game because I didn't expect anyhting great and was happy that I finished something.

LD41 comes up and during the first day in the COMPO I was so disappointed in my game and felt like I literally wasted my whole weekend. On saturday evening, I posted a gif of my prototype and the feedback was unexpectedly great and blew me away. That motivated me again and I finished 83rd place in overall score. Best score I ever had.

Now ofcourse for LD42, I'm a little bit nervous that unconsciously I want to outperform my previous submission and score better on the overall score. To be realistic, I'm not a very experienced coder/game developer and will probably end up a little bit dissappointed.

Good luck everyone!

Questionnable Engineering Choices

After a lot of technical issues and my laptop just breaking down, I have started some hours a go.

What if you need to build a city in a limited amount of space? You should build vertically!

Try balancing buildings on top of new streets, that are founded on pretty questionnable design and engineering choices? How high can you go and can you limit the falling buildings?

2018-08-11_21-16-41.gif

Still lots of work to do!

  • Overhaul the complete graphics, as this looks crap
  • Creation of UI
  • Add more variety of buildings
  • Graphical overhaul of the buildings
  • Creation of intro screen
  • Flatten out some bugs

Welcome to Evolucity

Start of Day 02

Welcome to Evolucity!

greetings from evolucity.png

The goverment is out of space and has the ridiculous idea of building vertically. As an Engineer, you will need to try and stack as many buildings as possible on top of each other. This can be pretty ridiculous!

Today, I will start creating some UI and a larger variety of buildings!

Evolucity - Morning after

Welcome to Evolucity!

The goverment is out of space and has the ridiculous idea of building vertically. As an Engineer, you will need to try and stack as many buildings as possible on top of each other. Try keeping your balance!

At 9AM on Saturday my laptop broke down, it wouldn't turn on! Once the technical problems were solved, I was a bit stressed out as it was already 2PM Saturday. I didn't had a general art-style but boy once I created these sim-city like buildings, I created all 3D assets in one go and finished day 01 at 4AM sunday morning. Sunday was for UI creation, score and sound. I'm pretty exhaused but happy to finish my third LD. I felt more confident and think I have created a more polished game in comparison with all my other LD's. I even used struct in my code stuff, which is wild because I'm a real beginner at coding!

Play my game at: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/evolucity-build-as-high-as-you-can

How high can you build?

In Evolucity you need to build as high as you can by stacking building on top of each other. How high can you build?

Thanks all for playing!

I created the LD42 entry on my sister's laptop as my laptop broke down when LD started on Saturday!

I bought a new laptop but I'm still waiting for it to arrive and I'm so anxious to create a small port to Android!

I'm pretty content with this Ludum Dare!! Thanks all for playing
