Ludum Dare 37

Lonely Computer and Video Games graduate reporting in with some family support!

Graduated from university half a year ago, after a rather empty half a year decided to take up coding again.

Will be using Unity (2D or 3D depends on theme that wins) and will be unofficially supported by my boyfriend and his art. Entering the 72 hour one, as it is more casual, but due to life obligations we might have just a bit above 48 hours really. First time here, is going to be fun! :)

themes are announced

thinking tower deference.

changed my mind on genre

went from tower defense to a roguelike with a hamster as the main character. In the last 4 hours I managed to implement walking, collision and aspect ratio. My artist had his photoshop crash so he lost the main character’s sprite. He is mad. Trying to decide should I implement throwing a projectile, or get some sleep.

I’m awake!

collected assets, sent my artist to bed. It’s like we are pulling shifts.

testing table transparency. Think I’ll start working on projectiles now.

20 hours in, still holding up!

it is nighttime, got some of my mechanics down, my artist has woken up and we’re about to have pizza.

28 hours to go

And the worry sets in. Even though we’re not that far from the end. Took me 5 hours to get main character animations set up. Both enemies still lack models. Downsized from 3 enemy types to 2. No sounds at all and we need an intro screen. Ugh. Programming for the most part is done. But now I’m ending up taking breaks because of it and waiting on artists is half killing me. Just relax me. We practically made it!

on the brink of total collapse

but doing bug testing right now and changing lots of small things, like colliders and damage dealt. Thankful for the input from our testers, a bit stressed due to much testing this late. The idea is to upload and submit in 2 hours, so that we have 4 hours to solve anything that can go wrong with that 😀
Oh, and this is our menu:

PHEW! We are DONE!

the game link
submitted our game 😀
We actually did it! This is amazing!

I am afraid your link is not working…

watch me play your games like a total babbling idiot!

I have a very small youtube channel (2500 subs, between 10 to 50 views a video), but I decided that trying to bring attention to this jam is still worth it. Yesterday I took 1 hour to try and play as many web based Ludum Dare games as I could. After exactly 1 hour I cut down the footage to just the games that launched and worked for me. So this week I have played Smallest Dungeon, One Rum, ToyZ, Executioner, Planetary Tycoon, Survival Shelter and Luread Mud World.

Next week, I’ll want to make another video, but this time on the downloadable games for Windows (without any extras, such as VR headset or a controller), so if you could guys, leave me a comment on my video with a link to your game! If it doesn’t make it into the video, I will at least play it and rate it in my own time.

In return, if you feel like it, I would urge you to play and rate my game. It is not a requirement, but a nice thing to do, so I would appreciate ANY comments and ANY ratings (as we’re going to be continuing to develop this one and any feedback (including negative feedback) is helpful).

Oh, and I’m using Linux. There is no linux version for the plugin its suggests me to install 😛

a reminder from the girl that is doing a massive amount of Ludum Games this week

if you want your game showcased, post a comment on this video before Wednesday (December 21st). I’m doing 10-20 games a day, giving them as much attention as I deem needed (meaning if I like your game super a lot, it can get a 15 minute segment, if 1 minute is enough, it will get a 1 minute segment. There’s no set timer). Every single game that I record I also rate and leave a comment. I’m essentially offering free feedback 😉

Today I released the first video out of series of videos (will do as many as it takes to get trough the list of games) containing RoomLops Cleaning, Hellblocks, Blackback Mountain, Bruce, the escaping ant, Pizza Catcher, Fear and Freedom, The One Room Experiment, Buteratos, Outlast The Flood and Tracer. If you’re too lazy to play these entries yourself, consider watching the video. Every Ludum Dare game deserves to have someone play it, test it and enjoy it.

And on that note, consider checking out my game.

continuing let’s playing your entries!

Welcome to Tuesday with a new video from me showcasing a whole bunch of Ludum Dare entries!

In today’s video you can see One Room Hotel, Jewel Defender, Correct Color, The Next Dimension, Jim Is Moving Out!, Hyper HoloMayhem 37, Sorry We’re Full, Guardian, Death Room 4000, This One Room, Sam, Cat and Robot, High Ball_Oon, Engine Room, After Party and Neat!

Still taking suggestions for entries to let’s play up until tomorrow (Wednesday, December 21st). Got a list of 68 games so far and I’m planning to let’s play all of them, rate them and leave a comment on them, before the judging ends. My way of recording includes giving games as much time as I decide I should. If I’m engaged with an entry, I can give it 15 minutes, if I feel that 1 minute is enough, that is how much time I spend on it. Today’s video is fairly long, because there were a lot of great entries, that I recommend all of you to try! And if you can’t be bothered trying, well that is what youtube videos are for :)

Every game deserves to be played and you guys are awesome for entering and making them :)
