First Ludum Dare. Should be fun!
First Ludum Dare going well.
After taking a long time to decide upon a workable idea, I went with a multiplayer 2D Asteroids version of Rocket League. Players work on teams to try to knock an asteroid into a goal. They control their ship thrusters separately with two buttons.
I made the ships, asteroid, and arena using Unity primitives. I got the physics working well enough and wrote some scripts to control gameplay. I added a bit of visual polish.
Tomorrow I mostly have to do the goal scoring, then all the audio and UI. Hopefully there will be time to improve the controls.
I am happy to have finished my first Ludum Dare. I submitted my compo entry one minute after the deadline (just into the submission hour).
I struggled with Dropbox. I struggled with animated GIFs. I struggled with Unity. Oh how I struggled. But I also learned.
I managed to make a four-player Rocket League like game inspired by Asteroids. You control each ship with two buttons (that’s the theme) to push around an asteroid to score goals for your team.
I give you: Asteroid League
