This is my first Ludum Dare, super excited to give it a shot! I’ll be going for the 48hr compo if all goes well.

Tools:

– Either (Unity in C# + MonoDevelop) or (HaxeFlixel + FlashDevelop), depending on the game

– Photoshop for graphics

– Bfxr for sound

– FakeMusicGenerator for music

Well, this is shaping up to be an…*interesting* game.

I still have no idea what the goal is though.

“Would you like to join the Interplanetary Duct Tape Alliance? No?”

Well, this could officially be called a game now – fly around, pick up planets, then swing them around like a crazy person to damage your enemies. The person with the highest total population (cumulative hp of all attached planets) wins.

That said, it still needs sound, music, menus, title page, AI, bugfixes, and probably some other stuff, with…4 hours left?

Let’s do this.

Blue ones have high hp, red ones do more damage, purple ones can steal enemy stuff, and yellow ones are yellow.

Whew! Finally done…or at least as done as it’s going to get, heh.

This was a lot of fun, and considering this was my first time in the compo I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Theme: Entire game on one screen
Game plan: Playing on multiple screens at once

I don’t see how this could possibly go wrong!

The green one might be a zombie, but he’s proven himself in past competitions.

These guys are in charge of examining LD games, and making sure they fit the theme.
They each have a screen that shows the current level – let’s hope they don’t realize that each screen is different!

…Yup, this game is going to be exactly as weird as it sounds.

Alright, finally finished all (or at least most, hehe) of the animations, as well as the level timing system.

Now I just have to actually make the levels…

I didn’t get time to add sound or music, but at least there’s some entertaining 10-minute gameplay and a very, very silly narrative.

What I learned this time: Animations are HARD. I probably spent more time animating than programming this thing, but that’s what I get for having 4 (5?) unique characters who are all functionally the same. Still though, no regrets – it was interesting to explore a (again, ridiculously silly) narrative and characters instead of focusing entirely on game mechanics.

Aiming for the compo this time.

Alright, I have a decent idea, time to make the basics of the game. I'll be using Adobe Flash for this jam, which will hopefully force me to spend more time on animation & polish during development (not that that's visible yet :P)

So this is by far the dumbest game I've ever made, which is an achievement I'm rather proud of.
