First time doing a jam :D

The more you have...

Alot of people complaining about the theme, but I think it's fine. Greed is such a prime example of the theme and it's been the subject of literature for ages. Definitely have a finished goal in mind. GL Everyone!

Upate #1

Long 10 hours so far, but I've made alot of progress. LD40LD401.png no animations but you can collect the coins and drop them off at your stash. Next up is adding enemies to bounce you around and take your stuff!

Enemies and thievery!

The thieves are here! LD40LD401.png stealing your precious gold. no way to kill em yet, if you collect a coin, return it to your hoard they will steal it and run away until they fall off the world...

Attacking, defending and scoring

Most all the systems are in place. It's kind of a mess and could really do with a heavy handed re-factoring, but everything is functional and appears glitch free. LD40LD401.png Soon I'll be able to start focusing on implementing the many missing animations and cleaning up some artwork :D

The game loop is finished!

The loop is finished, works as it should, haven't found anything game breaking... You have 10 hp, get hit lose 1 hp, lose em all you die and you're stuck with your score. Re-did almost all of the sprites for the main character, looks much better. Still have a few assets to touch up but as far as gameplay goes it's finished. Might look into adding another enemy or two after I grab some shut-eye. LD40LD405.png I want to get a good bg in as well and maybe a few decorations, we'll see how tomorrow goes!

My entry for the Compo

All finished. There are a few things I would have liked to add but I'm too tired to focus anymore. Time for sleep. I look forward to other great entries when I wake up ;)

Fail

When I first uploaded Dungeon Hoard I did so while having the wrong jme libraries set in the project properties. This was a mistake I made on Friday when I started a new project on Friday and didn't use one of my other projects as a reference. Long story short it worked fine in the IDE but the resulting jar would fail to run. When I uploaded to Itch I never bothered to check the executables, they've always worked in the past XD I pressed publish and took a nap. Woke up with my Wife asking to play the finished game, went to run the executable and nothing happens. Half an hour later problem is solved, correct files are on Itch, my game works now! Sorry for anyone who gave it a go, Lesson learned.

Thank You

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who participated. Thanks for taking your time and making a game to share! Thank you for the feedback. Thank you for posting your blog posts as you hit roadblocks or milestones. This is my first time doing a jam like this, and watching the whole community come together and just create was amazing. To everyone who finished, congrats! To those who have given up, please try again! To those who are counting the next 20 minutes in a desperate attempt to get your project up, I wish you the best of luck! It's been fun and I look forward to to seeing everyone's comments and votes over the next 22 days!

Used the random generator for the "Tower defense dating sim." Defend your heart from the waves of oncoming hearts of your potential partners. If their hearts reach yours you will be filled with their love. Your heart only has room for one partner though, so be sure you only allow their hearts in!

Spawning slimes

Slimes.png

I got level loading and slime spawning via Groovy script, and I'm making alot of progress on the mechanics. Hope to have at least 1 level playable by time I'm in bed tonight!

Wrapping up mechanics

Almost finished with game mechanics, it's about time to start throwing together some simple levels!

Ludum Dare 45

Looks like I'm in

Wound up passing out while reading stories to my son, but I was lucky enough to glance at the theme before falling asleep and I woke up with a pretty decent idea. Always wanted to make a store management game! Good luck to everyone

Very first screenshot!

LDJam45_001.png Here is my debug for the collision shapes that block out the character and the alley in which they live. Right now you can run around and bump into the walls (need to implement sliding instead of just a hard stop) and that's pretty much it. Alot more to go but I'm happy with something to show!

Inventory, Items, Interaction

LDJam45_002.png Still nothing pretty to look at, but the core concepts are coming along nicely. You can now pick up items that randomly spawn in your alley throughout the night. You have a grid inventory to store them in and you can pick them up and put them down. Next is to tackle spawning pedestrians and giving them a chance to want to buy your junk, or sell you junk of their own!

NPC's want things

LDJame45_003.png I implemented NPC dialogue, most NPC's don't want to talk to you, but a few will ask if you have items for sale. I still need to implement the transactions and money, but I am very close to being able to focus on content!

Adding Content

The game is pretty solid, basically it's only missing win/lose conditions which are probably not gonna make it. But Content is coming along nicely! LDJam45em003.png The map is no longer a blank, boring black void and the mobs are all colorful too. LDJam45/em004.png Making more tradeable items will be the very time consuming so I'm not aiming for a huge amount of variety.
