LD24

My first participation

I will participate for the first on Ludum Dare (as long as I don’t forget what day it is, like the last time I planned on participating).

My text editor is Emacs, and I will use GIMP for the graphics.

I am not yet sure if I will use C++&SDL, Vala&SDL or Lua&LÖVE to make the game. It will depend on what my idea is. Either way, it will be cross-platform game, since I use Linux and I love cross-platform software.

Just a screenshot before I go to sleep

Since everybody else is posting screenshots I decided I’d post one as well :)

LD 24 Entry

I will not yet give full details about the game, but I can tell it’s located in the ocean…

Not Space Invaders – Post Mortem

It only took me half an hour to come up with the idea for my game – “Not Space Invaders”. Basically, it’s the good old space invaders but you play on the aliens side. Use the arrow keys to select an alien and shoot to the humans defending on the bottom of the screen.

The theme was “You Are The Villain” and I immediately thought of making the opposite of a game where you are the hero, and Space Invaders just seemed like the most achievable one. So achievable it is, that I finished the entry very quickly. Thus, I used most of the second day for polishing (title screen, little tutorial, music, etc).

I used Lua and LÖVE. I planned on using HTML5 with my own framework, but then I just decided LÖVE was easier.

You can get links and rate my game here. Here’s a screenshot:

I think it’s nice we had the same idea, just went in totally different directions :). Thanks for rating my game. It’s not in the docs, but press “M” to mute sound. Will update the menu after voting is over.

I’m hearting this just because you’re using Emacs. And that’s from a Vim user.

Although nice everything-else, too.

Aw, I’m an ex-Vim user though and you don’t see many of us here on Ludum Dare.

Round 2 Voting

2013-08-19-154926_262x606_scrot

Got my votes for Round 2 up already! I have way more -1s on this round than on Round 1. In general, I find it a much less appealing round, but there are still 3 rounds to go!

My all favorite in this round is Recursion, I would love to see what people can come up with that, I don’t have many ideas myself yet, but I’m sure I’d cook something up in time. Once again, there are a lot of too vague and general themes that can be used for anything – it’s only natural though it happens every Ludum Dare.

Same here, the recursion sounds very interesting, i bet we would see some pretty genious ideas for this one, although i myself can’t think of anything right now ;p

My Round 3 Votes

2013-08-20-165010_276x594_scrot

You might wonder why I -1 so many themes. I find most of them to be too cliché. Themes like “Lost”, “Strange New World”, “Darkness”, “Castles” and others are simply too vague and will allow for anything. Sure, we can’t have super-strict themes either, but something that makes you thing and doesn’t just allow you to do anything.

Besides, I want themes that make you make something new, and not just let you to use an idea you’ve had before. I want us to be surprised and motivated to think this Saturday, most of themes so far don’t allow for that, but I have confidence that the community will pick, as before, an interesting theme that makes me think.

Multitaskor with 8 hours to go!

Around 8 hours to go and I’m finally posting about the game I decided to call Multitaskor. Every “10 Seconds”, you get into a new stage. A stage can be a simple arcade game (pong, tunnel, …) or a split-screen of two of these games (as seen below on the game screenshot). It’s been lots of fun so far and I’ve learnt a lot too. Still not 100% sure of what to do during the remaining time, maybe I’ll have some new ideas, but mostly just polishing and handling increasing difficulty of stages.

Posted a video on Youtube, see here!

Once again I submit!

It’s the third Ludum Dare I enter and I maintain my 0% give-up rate. I guess my trick is to find a simple and doable idea and be absolutely sure I can pull it off in way less than 48 hours.

On this one-to-last hour I polished like crazy and even fixed a couple of bugs. However, I took a long time trying to get an appropriate screen shot of the game. I finally got one, but I don’t think it does justice to the game:

And this is just a screen shot I took so people can see how it looks like in a browser:

I can only say that once again I had heaps of fun. You can play and read about Multitaskor here!

4th time it is

So, it seems like this is going to be my 4th Ludum Dare (4th compo too). This time I’ll (once again) be using:

HTML5/JavaScript and pentagine.js;
GIMP for graphics;
Emacs <3 for coding;
sfxr for audio effects;

I hope it will be another awesome Ludum Dare with amazing entries from all over the world!

My Votes For Round 1

Screen Shot 2014-08-16 at 19.03.40

These are my votes for the first round of themes for Ludum Dare 30. Honestly, there are way more -1’s in here than in the average round, but I can’t seem to like most of the themes in this round. They’re either too specific (“Everyone is A Monster”, “No One Can See You”) or way too broad (“What Could Possibly Go Wrong?”, “Labyrinth”).

“The Power Of Machines” sounds like a great theme and I’d love to see what others and I could make out of it, as well as “Strange Physics”, but the latter is not so good because it’s too restricting. What did you guys think of this first round?

5th time in Ludum Dare

Hey everyone, I’m going to take part in this weekend’s Ludum Dare Compo.

I’m going to use pentagine.js or LOVE2D, Photoshop/GIMP for graphics and sfxr for sounds.

I am with my friends in a local meetup in Coimbra.
