LD30

I’m (iA) in!

Hey everybody. I’m still looking to actually finish a game for the first time. I tried last year but I hit my usual issue of always hating my game idea halfway through, or just finding it to be more trouble than it’s worth. That, and the LD weekends seem to coincide with family events and stuff. But Ludum Dare is something that gets me to try, so here I am again.

This time, it seems it’s gonna be a sibling team effort, so that’s making things a little awesomer for me. It also means that we’re entering the jam and not the compo. So yeah, looking forward to that.

Even if you hate the idea half way through, keep with it. It could be better than you think in your mind, and finishing a game is awesome!

Making Progress

Hi errebodeh,

Over here there’s a team of three sisters working on a platformer. The idea is that there’s one of those boards with a wooden frame around it that can flip, so that one side is a whiteboard and the other side is a blackboard. Then you play as a drawing that can swap between boards as you like and you…you do cool platformy stuff. Currently we’ve only got programmer art as placeholder graphics, but I’m hoping that the artist of the bunch can come through and make everything nicer-looking. So here we have le whiteboard with blue marker floors, and le (green apparently) blackboard with chalk floors. We hope to add enemies and stuff, but so far the coolness is limited to platforms that only exist in one side but not the other.

It’s currently missing things like its actual button labels like “play” and “back” in the menus, but it’s technically playable (albeit buggy) and you can reach the end where you see an unfinished credits screen. So that’s been fun.

This work (idea and everything) started about twelve hours before this post, since before that we were all doing stuff, so I’d say this is real progress.

Mkay bye.
