Ludum Dare 46

Whaddup!

I'm so excited for my VERY first game JAM!

I have no clue what to expect, but I'm sure it will be very stressful and fun. I'll be using Unity as engine, Photoshop for 2D assets, Blender for 3D assets and Ableton live lite 10 for the music (if I ever get to that point...).

Any GAME JAM VETERANS with tips for a slightly anxious first timer? I'd really love to be able to finish something!

Half time update.

Sooooo much to do so little time... :') BUT I'm having so much fun!

Asked for advice. Got advice. Got the advice to keep the scope small. Tried to keep the scope small. Thought my scope was small. But now I know the reality.. soooo much to do.

Game idea: (rough) Some say nothing really dies, as long as there are still people to remember them. In this game you play a little creature inside a brain that gets a task to defend a special memory and keep it from being overwritten by other memories. There are four different area's in the brain that you need to protect, you have to have the memory alive in at least two parts of the brain at the same time.

TO DO:

[ ] A LOOOOT [ ] ART

I'm mostly worried about the fun part. Since that is by far the most important part of a game (I think)..

Whelpp. Lemme get back to it.. I'll keep you guys posted! :)

Enemies done!

Yesh, enemy controllers done and now the sprites as well!

I'm afraid there's too much going at the same time in the art style so I'll have to see what to do about that.. I'm thinking of redo-ing the player sprite.. If I find the time..

Doubts, doubts...

I might be able to finish my game before the deadline, but I could also polish it up tomorrow... What to do...

Ludum Dare 48

I'm going to join! :D

I wasn't going to join because I thought I didn't have the energy/time. But I woke up feeling very eager to join, so here I am! Very excited and inspired. Now I just need to come up with a concept..

Some mechanics in place

I quite happy with the progress so far!

I decided to do the opposite of what I did last LD, so I started with the gameplay instead of the art. My goal for this Ludum Dare will be to make a fun, FULLY WORKING game. My last game looked kind of cool, but nobody understood what to do when playing it, nor was it fun, both of which are quite important in a game :')

So far my game is not really fun yet, BUUTTT I got a bunch of the main mechanics done; - Player movement (left, right, jump, reach down, reach up, pick up items) - Dynamite system. I can make a bunch of variations quite easily now. - Basic Tilemap Generation ( A LOT TO DO HERE STILL!! ) - "Smooth" Camera Movement

Animation.gif

TO DO MECHANICS: - Add shop to buy dynamite (?) - Improve Tilemap Generation (ADD ORES) - Add endgame condition - Title Screen - End Screen

TO DO ART/MUSIC: - Er'rything

I'm still not sure if I'm going to add a shop in between levels, or just spawn TNT upgrades in the map behind walls (like bomberman/Bomb it).

That's the update for now. Tomorrow I will have a lot less time, so I'm very interested to see how far I can get!

And now I'm going to eat some pizza

TIME FOR ART !

Got most of the programming stuff done! For now at least..

So it is time for art! Haven't decided on an art style yet, but it'll probably be pixel art since photoshop doesn't seem to want to work with me any more :(

TIIMMMEE

I remember why I chose to do art last this time. I just get so carried away that time isn't a thing anymore..

I'm quite happy with how the tilemap is turning out to look. Very curious how it'll look in the game! Capture.PNG

Next up:

  • PLAYER DESIGN + ANIMATION

TO DO:

  • UI DESIGN
  • ACTUALLY MAKE IT ENDLESS (or implement a couple of basic levels)
  • JUICE IT UP

But first, some food! :pizza: :pizza:

Sadly no compo for me :(

I really wanted to finish today so I could join the compo, but I still have a lot of polishing to do to make the game actually fun. And I really want to put the extra day into it.

SO JAM IT IS!

Here's a small picture of the tilemap + player sprites in action. I'm pretty proud of how it is starting to look :)

Next LD, I WILL be ready in time for compo, I hope...

DONE!

Yess, so the game is done! Well somewhat... And now I'm just waiting for it to upload.

What a wild ride.
