LD 43

Spontaneously working at the expo and joining forces!

Two days ago I came to the GamesCon expo in Belgrade, Serbia, to present my game. I met some really cool guys on the table next to me. I was so busy these days that I had no idea LD jam was happening until this morning. I told the guys about the jam and we decided to "sacrifice" expo time to join forces and make something for the jam!

Some expo jam action:

Since we looked very busy and weren't just classic-expoing waiting for people to come play our games, there were more than expected curious heads asking what the hell are we doing. Which was pretty fun. And so we also spread the word about LD jam.

And so we decided to make a game about a typical Eastern-European tycoon-politician who needs to sacrifice everything for ratings. Even his family. You can bribe the police, receive money from Arab sheikhs, and throw bread at the people.. It's very early, a few hours in, more is about to come in a later post!

An Unfinished Twitter for Cats and Dogs

A first-time jammer friend and I were making a little twitter simulator for cats and dogs for the jam, but unfortunately an illness and lack of free time had us working just half a day in total and no time to finish.

We just got to this mockup, he wrote a lot of tweets and replies. Most importantly, it was his first jam, so it was also a learning experience, which was cool!

Looking forward to see what other people did!

We are saaaaailing!

Ferran and I decided to do an online-multiplayer sailing racing game! You must be thinking "multiplayer? for a gamejam? You are crazy!".. Yeah, that's what I thought too, but Ferran convinced me that he really wants to do it, and apparently he's got experience with making multiplayer games on jams, so I was like, ok, lets do it then!

Since he's in Taiwanese time and I'm in European time, he went to sleep and I was the first to start working on the game. I started by streaming me implementing a realistic sailing and fin physics.. Btw, did you know that fins and sails are totally the same thing??? Yup!

I was explaining that live on the stream, and how to calculate the "push from the wind".. And around an hour later, I started sailing:

I am continuing the stream in a few minutes, join me as I continue on to implementing BUOYANCY next!
