LD36

Progress day 1: Mechanics basically done

First time doing LD so I decided to make it fairly simple. It’s basically like those aim and power flash games except with a Roman catapult. You have knock over all of the targets with a limited amount of missiles and you will pass to the next level. So the mechanics and the animations are basically done.

To do:

  • More levels
  • Prettier interface (knowing how much power and the direction that you are pointing)
  • More varied environment and targets

Progress day 2: Some basic targets, improved UI and randomly generated levels

So, I have created two targets: the strawman and a bullseye target.

I’ve also added an arrow to the UI as well as a bar displaying the power.

A few things left:

  • More varied environment (snow field not good enough)
  • Difficulties should be adjusted when it comes to levels (same difficulty generated all the time at the moment)
  • Non stationary camera (probably just zooming and rotation)
  • Main menu

Basically this game is a cult manager. Feels like I spent half that the day trying to fix an issue with mouse events in the UI. This is why you should dig into a new engine (Godot) before you use it for a Ludum Dare. Hopefully tomorrow though I could juice it up with extra upgrades, sound effects and music and might enter my first compo.
